You just wait for a few years...then you'll start thinking about adding multiple varieties to a number of your trees...or you'll be disappointed with some varieties and start grafting them over to other varieties...your obsession has only just begun So, at what age should a person stop grafting as you will probably never live to see the results??? I did tack some fo the grin varieties on flowering crabs to save them.

Grafting and planting trees is something that I hope to enjoy/reap the benefits of....but I'm expecting whoever ends up with this place after me to really get the full impact of all the work I've done. Little will they know what all went into creating what they'll buy.

Stu,
I plan on creating some photo books of the work on our place. They'll stay with the lodge when I move on.

Per Appleman, "Odd but true. The tree will give up apples with a high wind while at the same time retain much of the crop. As viewed in the video, one can see shaking of the limbs applies more torque allowing the apples to drop more freely. I just did a video showing apples still on the tree in February and many deer tracks leading to the Franklin. The Franklin is the only one tree on our property with hanging fruit." I'll share the video when he does. Keep in mind Appleman runs a commercial orchard so he most likely picks most all apples to sell or make into cider. I'm gathering scions this weekend of 4 trees still holding. Maybe a 5th.

Bill and George are personal friends. What do you think one would say about the other? "Don't buy his trees, it's all marketing?"

BV, I'm in no way saying the tree isn't holding if he says it is. I'm saying there's plenty of trees around that hold late. When he says it's the only tree ion his land holding it's because they've picked the others. I won't get into the photo he posted and switched though.

I'm not buying a franklin cider tree, i have zero interest. What i'm saying is if Maya said its a good tree (for cider) i'd take his word for it, I have better late holding options personally that I want to try & eat. I don't know about you guys but I don't want to eat an apple thats produced for cider, I don't think they'd be a fresh eater.

I'm sure it's a good cider apple per the tests done by Terry Bradshaw ( not the Terry Bradshaw) I was just shocked that he still had apples holding when he initially did a video on how easy they were to harvest. Just seemed strange to me. Looks like guys are lining up on HT to order it though so good for him and them. That tree could act entirely different when grown in Kentucky or Virginia though.

With 80 + trees you'll have plenty to eat once they start producing whether yiu like them or not.

I want to have some apples that are quite different than the others. Many of those antique apples that are supposed to be good eaters are also supposed to be good for cider. Cider requires many flavor profiles to be "really good"
I wish Appleman nothing but continued success in selling his apple.
