I don't have a single mount where I have the deer on camera. I have a cam or two out, but the nice bucks I get are roamers. I see what I like and shoot it. I don't wait for a particular buck unless I have actually laid eyes on him. I use my cams more for doe inventory and to see if particular projects are having an impact. I figure when I see the right deer - I'll know! Last thing I am going to do is wait for one buck because I have it on cam...... If I see a new one that tickles my fancy, no stopping me. Yep - i agree. I look for one where he steps out and my body just goes "Wow." And then my brain says "Shoot .....stupid!" That has bit me in the butt only once.....where I shot the deer and it wasn't "the one". I was still happy and maybe I get a crack at "the one" this year!

I look at things a little different. I know I have several Huge bucks in the area we hunt. If i shoot the first good buck that comes by, my bow season may be over the first week at my place. I like to hunt. Passing a 140" deer knowing I could have killed it, that is the thrill for me. Knowing that at any moment a booner may walk out of the bedding area giving me a possible chance at him.......That's all I want. I will sit for 4 months and video tape bucks I could have killed, and be happy. But that's just me. I aint against someone if he wants to pull the trigger on any size buck, they are all trophy's to me, some better than others!

And thats why OTC wont ever become a trophy buck destination for out of staters.

And thats why OTC wont ever become a trophy buck destination for out of staters. I'd be pretty surprised if there aren't some Fargoans (Fargoites?) who own deer hunting land in OTC. An awful lot of them seem to own lake cabins/homes there.

It was a small basket 8. I was blown away. It's extremely rare to see an antler in daylight up by me, the exception is one darting across the road. I'm with you. I can get a lot of satisfaction out of just seeing deer use what I put there for them. If I can string together enough encounters to make a good highlight reel to look back on, then my base expectation has been met. Now I am starting to get itchy for some damn venison though. Still won't shoot a doe this year, but the first adult fork that comes by may meet his maker.

I'll tell you this much...I'd rather have a Fargoan owning next to me than a Chicagoan

And thats why OTC wont ever become a trophy buck destination for out of staters. I believe the OTC party may be winding down. January season up there next. DNR is mumbling 8 dpsm will reduce tick numbers. They only mumble the future. Ease you into it.
