You have quite the spot for geese! It will be a sad when I stop growing wheat. I am about the only guy left around my place. But I still need the straw for the cities. Soon as I give that contract up, the wheat will end. The grain loses money.

We used to have tons of grains in our area of OTC 20 years ago. I bet there isnt a half dozen fields of grains within miles of us now. One field that is wheat this year, I have permission to hunt ducks and deer. Went by last weekend a few times. Going up tonight. HOping maybe there is something in there tomorrow and try to hunt it Monday morning.

Nice limit of geese Mo, you were clearly on the X this morning. Since the corn is a few weeks behind back home, my brother hasn't started chopping silage and things were a little slower than usual this morning. We managed to get into a couple flocks coming back to the loafing pond though which made the morning worth while. Best part was seeing my son knock down his first goose.
My lab was enjoying his job as usual

Kinda slow this morning. Only 3 geese for two of us. But it's a beautiful day anyways!

Way to go Mo and Honker! Honker, a kids first goose is a special thing. Good job! Lots of wheat grown west of us. I doubt that changes, but I don't think their climate will support other crops like beans or corn

I didn't sleep in this morning. We ended up with 20 from a day loaf pond. One even had a band from Iowa!

That's great guys. It's a different type of hunting. Not even sure when our season here starts. Been out of it for a few years, but might make a few calls to go out a few times this year...not sure. I really like hunting them over water, but a good field where the "X" is can be just as awesome as well.
I don't have any large bodies of water around me. Most water is ponds in industrial or housing areas or the golf courses. We try to hunt the fields where the feed, but that can be pretty hit or miss and the resident birds get wise pretty quick.

Water hunting geese on their night roosting area is a no no for us. Bumps birds and they're gone, plus it's almost impossible to have a good hunt on them. Day loafs are my favorite to hunt, but tough to get on as usually they are a pasture and some farmers/horse people don't want guns near their animals/buildings. We got out yesterday morning and ended up with our three man limit out of a crappy looking alfalfa/red clover field. Fun hunt with two of my best buds. To top it off, I was out front of my house cleaning my birds and my neighbor came over to see what I was doing. He said he loves wild game and asked if he and his family could try some because they can only afford cheap ass meat! Always good to find someone to help out and help me from making so much jerky!

Hunting any goose on the water is a no no in my book. Disrupts there natural pattern for the area. Fucks all us dry land hunters.
