That's all part of the learning process for you and us. What happened?? My wrapping came apart quickly, i used just parafilm last year with huge success, not so much this year.

I had terrible success this year and I believe I know why. I put wax directly on the grafts rather than over the parafilm. I had much better success a couple of years ago.
I'm not giving up and will be at it again next year.

I've previously used just parafilm to wrap and secure my grafts. I had good success. This year I used rubber bands and then wrapped parafilm over them. I felt that gave a better pressure to secure the joint but, I had to keep an eye on them so they didn't start to girdle. A couple were close.
When I've used parafilm only I will wrap it once then twist the tape and wrap it twisted to provide tension then wrap it again untwisted.

The bands worked best, but you had to watch for girdling.

I've had decent success using straight parafilm for a few years now. I do very much prefer the 1" wide tape. I lose some grafts every year, but the vast majority of those are due to something other than poor performance of the parafilm.

Ate the first and only MN 80 15 30 Kazakh apple I had a bit ago. Right around a 2" fruit, not super crisp but not mealy either, nice flavor, sweet and tart both, no bugs or disease marks (one fruit not exactly a "test" though). The GRIN scion was grafted to dolgo rootstock and direct planted in 2015 (so a 3rd leaf tree). It was tubed for the first two years and I pulled the tube this spring.

Sorry you guys, been really busy. Just did my Grin order for scion! Some good choices there. I still have not decided if I should order or not.

Thanks Stu. I appreciate that. I tried that same link last night and earlier tonight on my phone and laptop. It gave errors. Now it's working. Looks like I'll be grafting again next spring.
