Has anyone ever planted sweet corn in your food plot. I'm thinking I may try this next year.

Pretty expensive seed for a food plot.
Edit: $300 for a 25lb bag!

I've never planted Sweet Corn but heard from others that it's a raccoon magnet. The last discussion I had about SC, a guy near my place was trying to grow 2 acres for personal, family, & friends consumption. His first year was a bust. He thought it was due to deer browse pressure. His second year he paid much closer attention and realized he had a Coon problem. He ran two live traps and caught 17 Coons. Third year he had figured it out and surround his field with 8 traps. Guy caught 67 Coons. He said that while his corn was reaching ripe, he could check his traps 3 times a day.

Fly Bait and Coke A Cola. No need for traps.......

I might plant some Sweet Corn next year just so my boys can beat back the Coons..... 🤔 My boys are 9 & 10 and I think they'd have a blast!!! I wonder if we could freeze them then sell'em to a trapper for $1-$4 bucks an animal? That'd definitely hook'em.

If you have that many coons around, why not get the boys trapping them this fall when the fur may have some value? That way, you'd have fewer around next summer during sweet corn time. Get those boys trapping hard every fall and your sweet corn growing will go easier each year.
Dad used to put a portable radio in a plastic bag and put it in the sweet corn patch. It was on a timer so he didn't have to turn it off and on every night. Worked very well.

I know a guy who put a rope on a radio and threw it up high in a tree on his property line night before gun opener. Rope tangled and there it hung broadcasting the news. Neighbor finally moved the stand they were arguing about after that. On the flip side my fatherinlaw used to play the radio 24/7 in his shed by Long Prairie. I listened to a twins game opening eve of bow season 120 yards away as 3 P&Y bucks fed in the alfalfa field I was watching. (early 2000's)

MO....explain a bit more on how you do this? Put a Mixture of Golden Malrin Fly Bait and a can of Coke in a alum throw away pie tin Highly illegal. Very effective. Many will die within sight of the toxin. (I have been told)
