I may also be having the 14 acres that's now in production be opening up as the guy that farms it might be getting out of farming. Hope not as he's my best neighbor. I’d see if the farmer could just come break it open for ya. $100 and a case of Busch Light.

I use a pull 3 bottom plow every 2-3 yrs to turn over clover plots. I see no issues the following growing season and many times the plots seems better than light tillage. I know you guys are anti plow but I do see a use for it on my place at times.

A digger in clover is da bomb.
I just see no need to plow. Digger covers much more area much faster in clover for sure.

If you were going to plow on a regular basis, you may consider buying a 3 point plow. But for a single purpose or two......why not just buy one of those old two or three bottom pull-type plows on the cheap.....and park it when your done........or sell it again on CL to the next guy. Wont cost much if you buy right. (if anything) I suppose the same could be said for a 3 point plow......I know when I sold mine the phone rang quite a bit with guys wanting to buy it.

Before I had access to a tiller I used a 2 bottom 3 point plow and disc for plotting. I could never get the soil worked with the disc alone and used the plow to turn under corn stalks. A plow works great for working up sod as well, but again it can be a very limited use sort of tool. I have plans to use it to plant some MG and acorns come spring by cutting a furrow and then recovering. Mine just sits most of the time, but I got it for free so it ain't costing me anything and I may run into a situation where I can't get the tiller and have to revert back to a different method. I will add that I only plow deep enough to turn the soil over. Some folks like to plow really deep and that can bring up less productive sub soil. It can also turn into an anchor for your tractor if you hit a vein of clay as well.....been there! Turns my little tracker into a digging little bastard...straight down!

Listen to how the tractor is loaded, with hydro, decrease speed or start lifting the plow until tractor does not sound overloaded.
