I'd get them done this year, you tend to get more fluctuations in weather than we do further north. Plus, you're growing a lot of more "tender" varieties than we are up here. Sure seems like it man, crazy 'winter' this year. Also my trees have sensitive ears if your gonna say tender make sure it sounds manly. Whats the mix for painting the trunks. I used a quart of drywall compound, a quart of water, and a quart of interior latex this year. Next time I'll likely skip the water and go 50/50 drywall compound and interior latex. I ended up doing two coats this year, by skipping the water I think a guy could get away with a single coat.

Seems like one of you guys had a chemical mixed in as well for fight against something but I don't remember. That post was from HT long ago.

Ya, I did add a few ounces of left over Sevin to my mix also. A guy could add whatever insecticide you want I think. I'm out of Sevin now, so I'll probably go with permethrin next time. I've seen people mention adding capsaicin and other things to the mix as well.

Long range forecast showing lots of 30s and 40s for the next 2 weeks. I wonder if a guy needs to be worried about getting scions cut and stored?

Funny you say that, I was really thinkin about that stuff myself. My extended forecast has temps high 20s mid 30s most of the way through feb now and no more highs below 28. It'll be still be chilly at night for sure but i gotta figure out when it to late to transplant my trees. I think i'll have to take probably 2 days off in the 1st or 2nd week in march to get all that accomplished.

Seems to be holding up well.

I'm paying my dues for having a mild January. 4" tonight and 6-10" on Sunday into Monday. Me too. Two weeks ago we had 6" of snow on the ground. It has snowed almost everyday since and no end in sight. Deer were in great shape for February but this will test them. Luckily still no real cold to speak off. Although no cold is what has lead to this relentless stretch of lake effect snow.

I threw my coat in the backseat of the truck for the afternoon and talked with people wearing just a polo and stocking cap. I was nice to get some sun on my face.
