Welcome to the pussification of the world. My god, I walked to junior high for 3 years in this shit and worse. My pants were wet most of the day because of the drifts behind the school where we lived. I had to cross the football field, and more. Good old moon boots, at least they were light weight to trudge that shit. We didn't have no stinking' "moon boots" when I was a kid. We wore 5 buckle overshoes and if you were lucky you had flannel lined jeans for insulation. I do not remember a single day that school was called off. If you could get to school....it was open for biz. Nothing was water-repellant back then....let alone water-proof. We had leather choppers and wool inserts that I was always drying out......only to get 'em wet an hour later. Snowflakes today have no idea about weather. lol.

you had flannel lined jeans? Damn, you were a class above me. I had wrangler jeans with nothing! And great point on the water proof,,, NOT. Moon boots were a sponge! I love todays things that make us go,,,,, AHHHHH. But I do miss the super simple way of life growing up a ton too.

We did have no school days as there were simply no way for kids to get there. Our school district was 60 miles wide with miles of gravel roads on each end. Often ‘mud vacation’ as well.

Our schools were open every day that I can remember. Often the busses were late or did not go out when too much snow......so the rural kids would not show up. But if you could get to school it was operating. Those days were kinda fun.....as the class room had maybe 1/2 the students and were often turned into study hall or discussion day, etc. I had a Model A ford in High School and it had Knobby 16" tires on and wire wheels from a 34 ford on the back. That car could drive through most anything. Phenomenal snow machine.

I know!
But man, I am not going to complain. we need it bad. At least now we have some water buffer as we get into true spring.

We were lucky to catch a long, slow rain the past 24 hours. There's a little snow left, but it is slowly melting and most of it appears to be soaking in the soil. There's a little runoff in the ditches, but less than I expected considering we had 6" of wet snow and 24 hours of rain on top of that.
Things were bone dry down here, so this is much needed. Hopefully we can pick up more days like this later in the growing season. I don't think we had an all-day soaker down here all last year.

This snow needs to disappear. I was really enjoying getting a bunch of work done in the snow free woods.

Great thing is that I got a lot of small shit done outside back in Feb and early March. My list is much shorter for actual spring work.
Yea, right....... That was dumb to say, I know....

Drove to Dodge County and back today. It's spring down there. Trees budding out and grass turning green. Still winter here at home

I cleaned up a bunch of dead/down trees from the last few wind storms that were blocking some "sidewalks" today. I checked on a couple plots to see if they were snow free yet. Where the snow has melted, the soil is already dry as a bone. I have a plot I call the "creek plot" since it's close to the ditch/creek on my place. Most springs I don't dare take the ATV through there due to sloppy soil. I drove all around today without making a rut. I hope the forecasted rain on Sunday pans out. Still "moderate drought" here. It's been like that since early last summer. As far as what I've seen in my little corner of the world, last growing season was much drier than the "historic" drought of '21.
