I need to add a few enclosed stands on my place and in one spot I need a tall stand. The location slopes from my field edge down towards a marsh. I don't know the number of feet lower the stand will be but lets say 5' so I am interested in building about an 18' wooden stand.
Most of the brackets I have seen fit a 4x4 treated post while most of the plans I have seen don't have stands taller than 8-12'. This stand will be facing west on an open field with wind blowing straight into it which means high stress on the stand.
I typically overbuild things and will be using metal brackets to help with the build. I plan on fastening the stand to the ground similar to the redneck blind system (at each post corner, a center cable straight down and then with the stairs). There will be an octagon blind on the stand.
What are my height limitations with 4x4 posts? Is there any building technique or anything in particular you would do to make this safe?

How big is the enclosed part? What materials will it be?
We have stands that are 16' to the base however not huge heavy enclosures on top

The stand I got delivered was a 6'x6' octagon. I think it is a 20' tower then the blind on top. Its 4x4's braced and is solid as hell with no metal brackets anywhere.
Edit: I did swap out the 21' ladder for a set of stairs that I built myself and installed with a rail on one side. To get a 9" step, the stringers were almost 30' long and that gave me a 8" rise.

We tipped it up with my boom on my skidsteer, but they can tip them up with a rope and 4 guys.

I know the kids just quoted my neighbor down in MO $1,250 each with box blind with rubber roof and 3/4" plywood, painted camo, carpet, corner windows, tower and ladder, delivered. Are they perfect? NO, its a box blind. It is heavy, it doesnt rattle like the fiberglass ones in the wind, and the windows are at the correct sill height.
He ordered 3 of them.

Mo,
What size are your window openings? I've been thinking 12"x36" for my next blinds but, how'd they be for archery? It will be a 4'x6' base hut.

On the Oxtagon, Corner windows are 12"x48". side widows are 12"x36"? Door window is 12"x24"? On the square rifle blinds, I think its 2-12"x24 windows per side. I am guessing, but pretty close.

i have a 6x6 shadow hunter. It mounted on 4x4's and is 21' to the deck platform. It is set on pads and I used 2 hurricane anchors to keep it in place. It's solid as a rock. The bracing was temporarily put on to raise it. I redid it once it was up.

Your tower looks tall, how do you think it would do with 50 MPH winds?

I've sat in it on days where gust were 25-30 and it doesn't move. Don't get much 50 mph winds here. I'd feel confident in it because I know it's anchored and built well.

After all the downed trees I've had this year I'd reinforce those tower legs if you're in a windy area.
