I found this interesting and thought I would share. These are the CWD sampling distribution maps provided by the DNR showing the (somewhat) exact locations as to where CWD samples were taken from this year in both the north/central location as well as the southeast location. What I find interesting is the sheer volume in samples provided as well as density throughout the sampling area in the NC compared to the samples provided in the SE. Way way more samples were provided up in NC. Is this due to poor opening weekend weather in SE or cooperation with hunters or something else?

The two areas are apples to oranges in terms of shear amount of deer cover and hunter density.

Looks like hunter participation in the north central was very good. It also looks like it was a blood bath over opening weekend up there. I'm in western 246. This does not look good for population expansion.

The guys in the SE don't kill every single deer they see?

It appears the hunters in zone 3 are only testing 20% of the deer they kill? Bozos up north are bringing them all in feeding the Machine?

Is it true that they have lowered the number of positives from 7 to 5 in SE MN now?

Is it true that they have lowered the number of positives from 7 to 5 in SE MN now? 6 now. But only 20% of the adult animals are being tested? Mutiny? Maybe my math is off but they killed 8,000 some adult animals in 343,5,6,7,8,9 last fall and we have 1,700 appx submitted fro testing this year.

MORE CWD FOUND IN WINONA COUNTY
Second case detected on deer farm.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Another case of chronic wasting disease has been detected on a Winona County deer farm.
The Minnesota Board of Animal Health says it is the same farm where CWD was detected in November. A quarantine has been established and an investigation is continuing.
CWD is a fatal brain disease affecting deer, elk, and moose. Officials believe it is spread from one animal to another through direct contact and/or environmental contamination. Infectious prions can be spread via saliva, feces, urine, and other bodily fluids. Easting infected meat is not advised.

I read that as well, cool breakthrough, but we're still a long ways out is what I took from that.

I am confused by that article. They keep using the word "bacteria", last I knew prions were just mutated protein strands that affect the cells surrounding them, more similar to a viral infection, not a type of bacteria? Are they saying the prions "are a bacteria" in the first place, or the bacteria is what causes the protein strands to mutate in the first place?

Maybe they found a way for CWD to affect the protein in the bacteria so it is the host to propagate it.

Thanks kabic! So he is saying that a bacterium is causing the proteins to mutate.........interesting....... This does make a bit of sense to me, in my limited mind at least.
