I like plums of all kinds, just like most crab apples. I can't stand a peach except in Pie!
Domestic plum trees have been a bust for me. They live a few years and die. I like wild plums and the near wild plum thicket on this old farm. I guess I should call it a domestic, but it survived for years
I have had a few plum trees grow from just spitting the seed in a short grass area and stepping on it.
Digging rootsuckers is better.

Yup, I like dolgos. You just got to get by the first bite. What I hate about peaches is all of the juice running down my face. I ain't got a beard to catch it before it runs on my shirt! I can throw the whole dolgo and most plums in my mouth.

I mean are you a man of the North or not? You have to be careful there BV. I work with a few guys from MN, that for whatever reason, can't grow a beard to save their lives, a few of them have wives with better beards than them! 4 or 5 skimpy patches of hair placed randomly around their cheeks and chin? IDK? At least they know it and keep clean shaven.

I have seen the patchy people around here too, makes ya flinch when ya look at it doesn't it.

I have allot of American plum that were planted as part of my CRP planting and they have done very well. Most of those trees are 6 years old and well out of their tubes (about 12'). One of the issues I had with the plum trees in tubes is the heavy fruiting of the plum pulls the whippy tree coming out of the tube. I have some pretty odd shaped trees but they produce allot of plums and when they are ripe they are delicious. I usually just suck the inside of the plum out and leave the skin.
I can't say that I have seen deer eat them but honestly I have not put a camera on them either. At some point I would like to try and graft a few varieties of plum onto the American plum.

I'm about two years behind you on the Am Plum I planted. I'd say mine average about 8-10' currently. I'm hoping to see my first fruit this year. I also have some pretty odd shaped trees and they are pretty whippy. I don't think I've lost any out of the 25 I planted but we've had a good run on rain the past couple of years. That reminds me I need to do a little pruning out there.

That reminds me I need to do a little pruning out there. Now that you mention that, I think I actually have 3-4 in tubes yet that are alive but in need of pruning. There are multiple stems sticking up from the tube. They could use some gypsum too.
