Chantrells anyone? I could easily fill a 5 gallon pail, and thats not even looking hard. Never had one, and never seen anything like this. on one trail, there are groups of a few up to several every few feet for about 20 yds.

If I was any good at cooking I'd be out collecting them. Bring a knife next time and leave that dirt in the woods. Found near Bur oaks? I had thought they like white oaks.

I use scissors on chanterelles.
Cook the water out of them in a dry skillet as first step. Then finish with butter.
If you have a lot, cook the water out then freeze on a cookie sheet. Then bag them for the freezer.

when you say cook the water out in a dry pan, kind of dehydrating them in a way?
Had some in my eggs today. Very good stuff. First time I have had them.
PS - hopefully I am not in the ER this evening. LOLLL

If they grow on dirt and not wood and they come apart like sting cheese, you should be safe.
Dry pan and add heat. They will end up in a pool of water. I cook that down. If you don’t do that you can get watery eggs.

How do they taste?
Are there any similar looking poisonous mushrooms in Minnesota?
I might have spotted some this weekend, but I’m not sure. I might have to go back and take a closer look. I really don’t want to get the shits though if they are the wrong species.

With care, once you have found each one time, they are easy to tell apart. Also once you find a patch of Chants they will grow from the same spot year after year, so just go to the same spot that didn't kill you the year before. www.minnesotaseasons.com/Fungi/Golden_Chanterelle.html

the chantrells have kept in the fridge very good since I picked them.
I put some baby reds, onions, carrots, chantrells and seasonings in a crock to cook for the day.
