Turkeys have evaded me on public land so far. Only went out two mornings and poor weather plus being a turkey newb didn't help. Headed out on some private land tomorrow morning with a guy a met that moved here from MN as well.

Put up a blind at 2 yesterday for my sons archery hunt today. Set 2 jake dekes. Went by at 4 pm and a tom was out there beating the piss out of the decoys. He is out now. Nothing yet.

Why set the decoys when you are not hunting?

21.6 lbs 8 1/4" beard 1 " spurs Brandon went out at 4:30 and bagged it at 6:30. 2 toms came sprinting across the field when they saw the decoys. 15 yd shot and pretty much dropped on the spot. the tail is missing about a quarter of the right side of the fan. You can see the feathers in the close up. Wondering if they got pulled out and thats regrowth or maybe they just didnt grow?

Awesome bird, and your boy has a twin in my hometown. He looks exactly like my friends kid.

Nice bird.
We once saw a hen who lost a chunk of her tail to a coyote. It may have been a close call for that bird as well.

So sitting here working with the windows open and I hear a gobble. So I keep my eye open and I see a Tom on the driveway. So I grab the call and had him walk right past the house where I called looking. Then he walks around the house and I see him from my desk. So I did this. Now is he is doing circles around the house looking for that hen. Poor guy just wants to drain his balls.

Just make sure you yell, "It's coming right for us!" before you pull the trigger.

When you see a turkey with its fan spread out it means he had grouse eggs for breakfast. True fact.
