I just got word from Jim that he will not be shipping any Trader mulberries this year because of a leaf spot and canker issue that popped up in his nursery this year. He believes it's a pathogen based issuecbut, he feels he may have caused it due a fertilizer issue. He's working with an university to test the pathogen to figure out a cure etc Ge hopefully will have them next fall.

My parents neighbor has a huge mulberry tree. We used to climb on their roof and eat the berries when we were kids. I know of a few others in the area and that is zone 4.

Art, I don't remember. I'm headed up to my place over Labor Day and will take a look. The trees I got were part of a shipment the owner sent to Baileys for testing. Baileys chose the trees they wanted and these 4 were left over. I had originally asked for 2 but he let me have these 4 for the price of 2 so I picked them up. Art, I just looked at two of my trees and they are not grafted.

How'd they grow this year? Any photos? I received an email from Jim last week. He won't be shipping any this fall due to pathologic leaf and canker issues in his orchard. He's trying to figure out the type of disease that hit and then go from there. His mother trees haven't been hit so hopefully he will be producing soon.

Trees are doing excellent, grew about a foot and filled out nicely. All growth was very vigorous. Trees came to me in root grower pots. The key will be how they survive the winter. (zone 3b) I also picked up a mn1732 apple, which is doing well also.

Nitro,
How are your Trader Mulberries doing?
I received word that mine were finally shipping last week and we’re due to arrive today but, they didn’t show. USPS says they are arriving late and no updates since May 6. Go figure.

USPS says they are arriving late and no updates since May 6. Go figure. I have 3 Trader Mullberry trees and I believe I Have had them in the ground 3 years. They survived last year when I believe we had -40. So far growth has been slow but I'm thinking they should now start to put on some growth.

Even the wild morus alba I brought from my old place has survived our winters since it was planted in 2012. I've been surprised by that to be honest. Unfortunately, that tree is a male. I'll graft it over to a Trader or maybe Kokuso in the future.

The two Trader mulberries arrived today in good shape. They came in one gallon rootrapper bags. I’m going to move them to 3 gallon this year and plant at my camp next year.

How big do these have to be to produce fruit? Mine had a few last year. One is about 5' and the other about 7'. I am hoping this is the year that I find out whether they're worth growing for their fruit or not.

I am hoping this is the year that I find out whether they're worth growing for their fruit or not. So I’m probably looking at another 3-4 years? I may keep these at home two years and then move them north.
