mclovin and i headed west on thursday morning. We had each shot deer in the area 7 or 8 years ago. Season started on saturday Getting into wyoming with enough light to do some driving around lokking forvdeer. Our tags were good for both mulies snd whitetail. Friday we drove around in the morning. Hung a couple portables on public and walk in land. Then more scouting and driving in the evening. Saturday morning i headed to a portable in some cottonwooda leading away from a sugar beet field hoping to catch a buck heading to bed. Mclovin took a higher position in the sage to watch the feildsvand see what happened from there. Rain is half an inch a month this time of year and every thing is dead and/or super crispy. All of a sudden there is a deer at 22 yards. Dang fawn.

I would see five more does and fawns plus some whitetails up in the field a few hundred yards away. Mclovin saw pronghorns and had a mule deer doe and fawn leave the field and walk a mile right past him at 18 yards. That night i put a tent on in an alfalfa field next to acfield of sorguhm where we saw a few deer the days before. There is irrigationthere and there are corn, sugar beet and alfalfa fields around. I would see ten mulies including a big 4x4. Mclovin went to the corner of a corn field with sugar beets next to it. He saw a few does and fawns. But as I was driving to pick him up my headlights picked up a deer so i turned the truck and there was nothing but asses and antlers. At least twelve bucks and only a couple hundre yards from mclovin. Sunday i headed to a portable on a river bottom hoping for a whitetail. Mclovin on the edge of a corn and alfalfa field. He saw four dinks and a doe that ended up within five yards of him while he was just hiding in the corn. The portable i was in was only 12 feet high. Not alot of big trees and even less good ones. Buck! 15 yards away didnt make a sound. Ended up one yards from tree. Saw a mulie doe and two fawns later that morning.

Sunday night we both headed over tothe area with the dozen bucks. There were two shooters in the bunch. I hid under a tree on a fence line hoping to catch a buck heading to an alfalfa field. Wind was wrong for the feild i saw the 4x4. No bucks but had a WT doe and two fawns at five yards. Mclovin set up in the field i saw the dozen bucks. His night was slow until ne was taking down his tent. Then a dozen bucks were in the field up the hill from him. He froze and i pulled up in the truck a created a diversion so he could get out clean. Now he knew where the came from and that gave him a game plan for tomorrow. Monday i went back to the whitetail stand. One fawn and that was it for me. mclovin put up his tent in a corner near a corn field where he thought the bucks would head in the morning. I texted him that i was getting down at nine. He said ok the bucks were probably not coming. Ten minute walk for me then seven more for a drive and before i can get to him my phonne is ringing. All of a sudden he has a bunch of bucks around him acting skittish. He grunts them to a stop and the only shooter gives him a one foot opening between deer at 41 yards. Threads the needle and ten rings him. He went 150 yards.

So now it is a mad dash. Cant find a butcher on meat locker on labor day. We have to process ourselves. Do that in the shade and in the hotel room.
Buy some dry ice. Stuff some in the little fridge. Drive out of town to get rid of carcass. Run out and move my blind closer to where i saw the 4x4 come out the first night at 5:45. Run back take a shower and head out to the blind. 88 degrees and in a tent with little wind. Felt like an oven. Had two windows open facing right, that is where I saw buck come out Saturday. Too hot. Had to open another window to the left. But only half way. 5:30 and a big 3x2 is feeding 200 yards away.
There is road about 300 yards away and mclovin was headed my way to watch with an order of tacos. 5:45 and i have my bow in hand. Nothing for ten miutes so i set it down. Five miutes later i lean back and look out my left window and son of a bitch ther he is at 25 yards feeding along the sorghum. I am in shock. I cant shoot until he gets another ten yards to the left and then i have to lean way over. I am super excited hoping not to fuck this up some how. I have to watch him for at least five minutes. Meanwhile mclovin pullls up wth his tacos and binoculars. He looks closer and sees the buck. He iw wondering why i havent shot. Well the buck takes three more steps and i draw and lean. Try to calm myself down and squeeze the release. The hit is perfect. He runs along the sorghum 60 yards stops and then his ass sags and he goes down. I hear mclovin whooping it up from thr truck. I did not know he was there. I jumped out of the blind and celebrated. Check my phone and see his text from a few minutes ago that said "i am eating taco watching you bake". Thought that was funny. I was bitching about the heat earlier. Ask MO.

That looks like a great hunt with some nice bucks. How are the game animals in general in that area? What region of Wyoming are you hunting?
I heard that last winter was pretty mild in a number of areas in Wyoming, but tough in other areas.
