I need a new weed wacker.
I had a....."misunderstanding" with my current one recently.....and lets just say I vented my frustration with it in a very violent manner. To be honest I tossed it several times, grabbed it by the head and swung it like a ball bat into the drive way several times until pieces went flying apart, which busted the gas tank and then I proceeded to set the MOTHER FUCKER on fire! I felt much better...... I think I scared the wife and kids however.
Any way - I need a new one....and a good one. One actually made for tall people as I am roughly 6-1 and I hate the short little bastards that keep you hunched over the entire time.
I'm considering something like a clearing saw, as I have a need/use for one of those, but it would need to serve as a weed wacker as well. It's not going to get a lot of love as I hate using one (I normally use gly and a sprayer but the wife bitches).
if you guys have any you have used for a long time and like that don't suck, I'd like to know..... I have had great luck with Sthil power equipment, but I assume there are others.

I ditched the gas trimmers and went to the Ryobi 40volt weed whip at Home Depot, and couldn't be happier. I have 3 batteries between that and the blower. I only trim a city lot at home, but I can do large areas too, and it will do some fairly thick shit. I actually used this trimmer to cut the entire yard at my deer shack last year, and it hadn't been cut all summer prior to me working it over in August. I also got the tree trimming chainsaw attachment which is damn handy for trimming up around deer stands.

My brother did commercial lawn mowing with the same Echo for like 5+ years. Good runner.
Haven’t had good luck with the recent Stihl blower purchase. Hope they’re not going downhill

I also got the tree trimming chainsaw attachment which is damn handy for trimming up around deer stands. The "yard" is a combination of my actual lawn and a barn lot with a few out buildings......it's maybe an acre, acre and a half. What I am trying to find is something that I can swap the heads out on and have a line trimmer as well as saw blade head (clearing saw). I am pretty sure I'm sticking with gas. If I get just a line trimmer I'll just get something cheap with the expectation of another "melt down" after a year or two of use. If I get an entry level clearing saw type machine I'll get something nicer. I hope to have something that I can trim around the house and barn lot, maybe use as a clearing saw for saplings and brush as well as use to zip some weeds or even knock back a remote food plot. I realize versatility is expensive generally speaking.....I'm OK with that to a point. I just don't want an expensive POS.

Hope they’re not going downhill I worked a lawn crew in college and we used Sthil equipment then and it was good stuff......that was .......20......Ummm.....a long time ago. Not sure if they still offer the best stuff or not. I love their chainsaws. I'll look into Echo and see if they offer anything that seems to fit my needs.

How long do you use it? If it ain't for full plot mowing, I may do some investigating into electric. All that mixed fuel, carb, air fileter, spark plug shit is for the birds if it isn't absolutely required.
I don't know shit about electric trimmers, but the industry seems to be doing a good job putting batteries on shit. I might even need one some day, but for right now, bigger things are on the list, like a case of industrial sized cans of pickles.

I got tired of pooring out old gas. You can buy 50-1 and 40-1 gas at Menards and so far it has worked very well.

Since battery power got brought up... does anyone have a battery powered chainsaw? I'm considering one for ringing trees. I bet I start and kill a saw 15 times an hour when I'm hunting locusts. Would sure be nice to just pull a trigger.

I had echos for years and my dealer switched to stihl so I did to. I don’t think you can go wrong with either. Just make sure you buy the big boy one with a straight shaft. Make sure you use ethanol free gas. I burned up a couple things running ethanol gas. They both have easy setups for swapping to a brush cutter. If you have never used one they are a blast.
