Well I'm not a new member but figured I get the ball rolling so the newbies wouldn't be scared to introduce their selves. I'm a maintenance mechanic in the dairy industry for the past 35+ years. Currently working for the largest US butter manufacture. Doing what I do I'm pretty much a jack of all trades, welding, fab, plumbing, electrical, plc, etc... The wife and I own 40 acres all wooded with the exception of the food plot. Its a typical Northerner WI sugar bush. We tap maples in the spring and I'm trying to build the herd. It's rough as I have a lot of Amish neighbors who hunt brown is down and I suspect this is done year round. I have not rifle hunted the property is 4 years. I leave it as a sanctuary from the Amish army. The first 2 years it was tag soup for me. The past 5 years I have taken a deer or 2 every year. Not wall hangers but also not does. I'm 61 and have bounced around from forum to forum & settled here with the rest of the misfits. But let me tell you these are some of the most knowledgeable guys I know. Although I have never meet any face to face I do consider some very good friends. One of my saying is "If its a bag of shit I'll tell you its a bag of shit, not a bag of rose's gone bad". So I fit right in here. If you want to learn about habitat and have a good time this is the place. So welcome to you new guys. PS. Some of the guys here are kind of goofy and have multiple personalities but we still like em.

Hi, I’m a veterinarian, 50 years old. Live and work in Stillwater, MN. I have 180 acres in Douglas county, between Carlos and Long Prairie. The Long Prairie river flows through the property. Lots of riverbottom and wetlands (cattails, large areas of ROD) , a few small woods. The 50 or so acres of “”tillable” land was put into brome grass and pine trees in the mid 80’s. There are larger open areas from when my Uncle did controlled burns that got out of control. (Fire department was over a few times). I just finished plowing and tilling the last of the brome grass this year. I have close to 40 acres planted this year. I am cropping for a few years to get rid of the brome grass before planting switch grass along the highway. Next spring I will start planting apple trees. I am starting with 100 antonovka seedling whips and 25 pear trees. I am going to start grafting as many different varieties as I can to start as I learn grafting. I would really appreciate if anyone would let me have some scion wood to help me get started. I’m so happy to have found this forum. (Thank you Leexray shady for sending the link from habitat talk.) It’s nice to have people from the area to ask advice from. I had previously read through the entire Dbltree’s corner on Outreach outdoors forum..at least up to 2014 when Paul Knox unfortunately passed away. The majority of my food plots are his rotation. (Except for the 30 acres of corn and 3 acre alfalfa and soybean plots.

Welcome dude! I have mild winters, hot summers, and no cats. I don't fit in with these misfits like you will, but they are kind enough to accept me anyway. You should have no problems here and will probably like this site more than women. Do ya like apple trees, grid power, and snow? Those seem to be big things here.

Welcome wintomatic,
I'm in New Hampshire. A long ways from Minnesota. Most folks here were on the Q forum for many years before it was disbanded and knew Paul as well. If you have any questions on habitat you'll get your answers here. We will get you grafting if you have questions.

Welcome Winto. I came here from the “other place” too. I’ve found a certain kinship with this group. I don’t go back there a whole lot.
Funny stuff sometimes. Also solid information shared.
Bob The Cat isn’t really a cat. Well, he’s a cat, but he doesn’t type.
Batman is hard to figure. But eventually you will figure it out.

Gotta save some Surprise. “Is that an actual cat using a computer?”
