Getting tired of making the drive back and forth to the land. Not as much the drive as the losing working hours to packing and unpacking that sleeping over would avoid. Still not ready for a larger investment, but looking for some affordable dwelling to go along with the shed that is up there already. How many of you have or used to have something like this for deer camp? What are the advantages/disadvantages of this over a smaller cabin that Kooch and SD are working on. minneapolis.craigslist.org/ram/rvs/d/very-clean-jayco-jay-flight/6750567678.htmlI’m thinking immediate cost and future flexibility as my primary drivers.

We used to stay in a pop up camper the last week in Oct when we hunted ND years ago...... It worked, but it wasnt comfy!!!!!!
I would think that would work great!

My brother uses something similar for his "mobile elk camp" when he is bowhunting elk in WY. Pulls a camper up to the top of the mountain and just moves it from public campground to public campground as the elk move around. He tells me it works great for that.

We used an Ice Castle fish house, works well, and serves another purpose as well--ice fishing.

For a little more than the $6500 you would have into that camper you could pour some concrete and get a shell of a steel sided cabin built that would be a decent temporary setup until you had the time/money to finish it off. Hunting cabins get more expensive when you finish them off and add electricity, plumbing, water, etc., but the basic building shell on concrete isn't too bad. Just have a plumber and electrician run pipes and tubes before you pour the concrete so those are in place for future expansion plans.
My buddy bought a new camper thing like that for his lakeshore lot camping cabin. I think he paid around $30k for it and it leaked the first year and depreciates by the minute.

The downside to adding a permanent building like I recommended is that your deer property won't appeal to as many people in the future if you decide to sell and there's already a building there. People like blank slates more.
But my desire to sleep in a building was more important than future land sale concerns, so I went with a cabin.

Shop Craigslist for a Mille lacs fish house. You can get into a good sized 100% finished small cabin for $12 k and it will have tv stove fridge stereo heats lights fans shitter blah blah.
Turn key and it won’t lose its value.

I would go the wheelhouse fish shack long before the RV as well. RVs aren't built worth a shit, and it's nearly impossible to keep the vermin out of them. You might as well leave the door open on those.

We used an Ice Castle fish house, works well, and serves another purpose as well--ice fishing. These are nice but I'm amazed at what they cost. I looked through them a year ago at one of the local shows, 30-40K+ for the larger RV style that include toilet and shower. It appears they hold their value much better than RV's but at the same time you can't find deals on these units.

From time to time you can find a small, well made cabin on Craigslist.....or other sites. Takes a bit of searching.....but they are out there. I have mine on blocks.....and it could be sold and moved if I were to sell my land (and someone would not want the cabin - but that is doubtful).

^^^The cabin I bought is made of pine timbers and measures 12 x18’. I added the deck and electric heat and power All totaled I have about $13k into it, but it’s a nice shelter for us. We don’t sleep there.....but do take a few naps and watch some football. Nice to have a lunch there for me when workin my property. FORE! Edit: I do have an unheated 30x40 pole shed next to this cabin. I used to set up card table for lunch and it kinda/sorta worked for me in the summer. Having no heat and everything being so inconvenient was somewhat of a hassle for us in deer season.....and for me when working on my place. This is not a big enough cabin for lots of hunters....but it works nicely for my purposes. Likely good for one or two guys to spend a few nights.....but I just have a reclining sofa and a recliner chair to sleep in.
