I went ahead and ordered another 25 tamarack from Todd County. Hope they're better trees this time.

I went ahead and ordered another 25 tamarack from Todd County. Hope they're better trees this time. If you have any gravel roads cutting through public Tamarac swamps in your area you could pull some seedlings from the road ditch. Ive had good luck pulling both tamarack and black spruce from my swamp shooting lanes and transplanting them to other areas of my property.

Seems the swamp takes forever to thaw most years.

I planted 150 white cedars here in 2013 or '14. I've found maybe a dozen or so. I do have a few approaching 3'. I suppose the deer will find them this winter.

The few tamarack I pulled and planted in my visual screen rows look great. I wished I planted more there just for some variety. I don't think they are great for wildlife, but they really look great this time of year.

The tamarack/tag alder/sedge swamp surrounding the environmental lake that makes up my west border is great for wildlife. The tamaracks are so thick that even without needles in the winter they provide a great windbreak. Not much food out there, but the cover is incredible.

I checked my Tamarack in Otter Tail County, I was floored how tall they were already. Tamarack are on the list now to plant more often. Too bad they lose the needles. I like the tree overall though.

I'm hearing that the Tammarack's are dying off all over northern MN due to some disease. They seem like a fragile tree to me under many circumstances.
