I received an email saying GRIN had a severe outbreak of fire blight in the orchard this year so there’ll be no budwood or scions for next spring.
I checked my spring grafts yesterday and my esopus spitzenberg has fire blight on it. I’ve seen no other fire blight anywhere this year so I guess that is a tree I wouldn’t recommend. I’d have thought it would’ve been too dry here for fire blight.

^^^ya, I had read about the F.B. outbreak and no scions/budwood awhile ago. Think it was on the NAFEX facebook page.
Spitzenburg made it here for a couple years, then it didn't wake up one spring.

Has anyone ordered from grin for next spring? Welcome! As of a few years ago, they were no longer taking orders from us.

I am done ordering from GRIN. It really isn't designed for hobbyists. I did get scions from them a number of times, but I felt like I was cheating the system. There isn't anything I want that I can't find elsewhere anyway

While I haven't ordered from GRIN for a few years now, I still go to the site to get info from time to time.
I ordered and received a variety named "Pup's Tego" a few years ago ('17 or '18 I think). I went to GRIN a bit ago to see if there was any information on how precocious the variety is since neither of my two have produced a blossom yet. Apparently, GRIN no longer has the variety. I found the number associated with the variety when I ordered and typed that in and got no results. Same deal when I used the name.
Kind of weird

I wonder if a dna test showed it was another named apple variety.

GRIN still lists two other varieties donated by Pup's, so I'm not sure what the deal is. edit...I just went to GRIN for info on Jonsib crab. Now, I can't get that variety to show up on the GRIN site. Maybe I'm using the wrong search parameters...

I go back and forth on whether what I call Jonsib is a crab. My tree is young and has had only a few fruit. It looks to have a decent crop this year, so I hope to know for sure one way or the other.

Mine is tacked on a side branch of red splendor Mine makes up one half of a wild crab. I had intended to remove the wild crab half once the Jonsib produced. Then, the wild crab produced fruit before the Jonsib. It would probably be something you'd enjoy since you like Dolgo. About the same size as Dolgo, a little more round, and ripens later in the fall. It's another tree I should be propagating.
