Thinking about moving to an electric auger. Leaning towards KDrill or IonX? I thoughts or comments?
Need a new hammer drill so thought maybe K drill might make the most sense financially

I've had the original Ion for a few years now and like it. No doubter if you have a permanent house. No more fumes in the house. The new IONX are even better from what I hear.

I’ve also had the original Ion, before reverse and the 10” bit. Mine came with the 8” and I bought the 6”. I have never taken the 6” off. I did the math and I think the 6” is around 40% less ice than the 8”. I can drill more holes than a prospector with a paying gold claim. I also bought an extra battery and the battery bag to keep them from the elements. I’ve never run outta power. With the 6” bit, it’s also the lightest power auger I’ve ever handled. No more drilling fatigue. Contrast that with a strike master that weighs 15 pounds more, and your mobility goes in the tank.

How many holes can you drill with the original ion if the ice is 3 feet thick? With two batteries that is

With two batteries that is I believe my auger was rated to do 130' with the 8" auger on two batteries, and 180' or so with the 6". You're gonna make me do hole math? (8" auger) 130' @ 3 ft ice = 43 (6" auger) 180 @ 3 ft ice = 60 Only time I ever get concerned about battery life is late season perch fishing. The rest of the season, I never even use the second battery. I think the newer model has even more battery than what I have.

I am holding out for a solar ice auger. My hope is to die before it is offered so I never have to ice fish again.

The Ions are awesome for the permanent house. We were using one up on Lake Winnipeg in Canada last winter. It drilled quite abfew holes through 5’ of ice with no problems. I have an older Strikemaster electric. I wish they would make a lithium vexilar type battery that would work as a replacement. They will never do that though.

Yes sir. Tomorow will see over 100 people fishing a 7 mile stetch below the plant for smallmouth. Maybe 2 chasing catfish. If we go.
