Oh man.... They can soon scrap the deer plan they worked so hard to build.
It will be a one page leaflet in no time.
MN DNR Deer Plan Version 2.0 - Statewide No Limit
Holy crap. Boy this is not going to end well. If it ever ends.

Gotta consider bear hunting, turkey hunting or grouse now. Really stupid to own a "deer property" I suppose. I should consider selling my "deer property". Seems like a waste of time.

That was a big leap. Damn. Only a tiny leap though from the nearby cwd positive deer farm.

I don't have cwd by my wi place yet, but frequent low deer numbers there made me spend more time planting trees and managing habitat to benefit other critters. It's way easier to manage for grouse, rabbits and ducks.

Maybe we should stop trapping beaver and demolishing their damn dam complex. It was a pretty good duck and goose pond, but threatened to flood me out if it got any bigger. Out in the state land behind my slum there are a couple beaver complexes full of birds when the time is right. Perhaps the turkey will finally make it all the way up to my place in some numbers soon. Seems like the uber deep snow would be a problem for them, that and the wolves.

Way back in the day, before European settlement, how many deer were there? More or less than now? Honest question. I know we nearly killed them all at one point, then they came back from the brink. This may be an exaggeration. But it was rare to see deer most places not that long ago.
Is the high current high population abnormal? If so, wouldn't disease be a normal result? You know nature's way.
Honest questions.
And if people around my place start selling because of this, I'm buying it. Deer or no deer, I like it up there.

Northern MN swamp water might make good moonshine. I'll turn my camp into an illegal distillery

Like everything in nature, deer populations were never static. We need to get over the liberal environmental thoughts of a stable and perfectly balanced system that existed before the white man entered the Americas.

CWD and low commodity prices makes you wonder if land prices are going to come down. If Commodities stay low and CWD increases the risk to deer hunters, there could be a time coming where you could buy income generating land at a good value.
I understand farmers are under allot of pressure and bankruptcies are on the rise. Income generating Land might be a good way to diversify your portfolio.

Land can be flipped also. As always, timing and choice of land are the keys. I just want to buy and hold. Probably not a good thing. My northern land will soon have cwd. I estimate 2-3 years and 5 years where I live. However the northern land in lake country should maintain value and there will be future timber harvests. Where I live in farm country will also retain some value. Variable with crop prices.

Still, I'm more of a buy and hold guy as I dont have time to dedicate to property flipping.

It's going to be interesting to see how the extermination goes up there. I see three big differences in northern MN vs what's happening in the SE. There is no organized deer interests up north like they have down south, the government owns 80% of the woods up north, and the sad state of the habitat is going to make sharpshooting highly effective.
I don't see them having to do near as much PR work, and those pesky private land owners won't be getting in the way.
