FWIW...Ark. Black is a triploid and requires at least 2 other different varieties blooming at the same time in order to be pollinated I will keep that in mind. I was told my other apples "should" provide the pollination needed.....but I will certainly be mindful should I have issues.

I'm excited to get a good crop from my Chestnut in the near future.
Side note--my Arkansas Black has been my best tree that I've planted so far for producing/ease of growth!

Negative. It's loaded this fall for a 9 ft. tree.

What would be wrong with having 30-50% of your apple trees in Chestnut Crab? Since I have seen them survive and thrive. You guys thinking mainly for diversity? I can't see many options being better for a wildlife fruit tree? Let me know...

Chestnut drop mid season so having a late dropper like Kerr or Winter Wildlife Crab are nice additions. edit: I just read 30-50%, I don't see why not.

I still have a few crabs on the chestnut, but at present deer are going to this crab. I call it Big Dog or Garden Crab. Kerr is also a good choice.

It is a rootstock where the top died about 25 years ago. I didn’t know how to take care of it and the regrowth died once on me. I have it tacked on dolgo rootstock and in two swamp crabs where it is also producing apples. I sent Blue Hills some scion last spring and also a short video.

The cider at St Joe was looking for 200-400 bushels of chestnut crabs this fall.
I am not sure if I posted this before or not.

One fawn under the chestnut crab. One of my two chestnuts in the yard is holding a few apples, the other is not.

If it’s holding fruit now, that’s one I want.
