I have not said a word, but still do not understand hunters who complain about someone else shooting yearling bucks, but then they shoot a yearling and say they shot him to take the genetics out of the herd. Heck, be honest with yourself. You shot that buck because you had a legal tag and you wanted to shoot him, just like me and any other hunter who finally decides to pull the trigger. Some years you might decide to wait for an older buck and some years you might just decide you want some venison. Nothing wrong with either way of thinking if you have a legal tag. You're a better man than me Art, if somebody I knew said they shot a yearling to take the genetics out of the herd I'd chastise that SOB big time. "Culling" is one term/idea I have very little time to listen to...99% of the time it's pure B.S. The only person that can use 'Cullling' is that kid from home alone, "I culled' 'em', lol.......

"Culling" one term we hear or see that should be ignored by 99.99% of hunters. You cull a heard to maximize its performance under extreme management.......if your hunting free range deer - you need to forget you even know that word! If you need that word to justify your actions.....the issue isn't with the deer, it's with the dope that pulled the trigger!

They aren't culling. They just decided to shoot a deer.

All this cull buck terms and stuff are exactly the proof we have lost our minds as a hunting community. We have to make excuses for the reason a person shot a deer. Back in the old days you were just happy to shoot one. Now we are embarrassed if it isn't big buck. Everyone is worried what others will think.

When I used to watch hunting shows on TV, I can remember some instances of ground shrink. The buck would turn into a cull or they would just stretch the story to make it bigger.
How about the deal of backing out until morning. How much wasted venison by the experts on TV? It all depends on night time temps.
I guess it does not matter as I can remember one who retrieved his deer months later!

Seems like the land angsts are getting worse and worse each year, and all over the place.
