So I got one of these from Santa and just hung it up at my camp last weekend. It's a fancy camera with cellular to transmit pictures to my phone. It works. I put regular old AA batteries in it, 8 of them, energizer. It's already run through a lot of juice. It's showing 64% battery left in my phone app. I will replace them with lithium next time I'm up.
Does anyone have any experience running trail cameras off 12V? I've got the adapter. I don't want to go solar for this (Sorry SD) because I need to keep this camera at least a little bit hidden. I mean, it's not hidden. But it's not super easy to see if you don't know it's there. A solar panel would ruin that for sure. I think a skinny cable down the back of the tree with a 12v battery in the weeds would be OK. I'd pick up two batteries and alternate.
Which battery?

Been there. Done that. Wait. What voltage is that cam?

Well, they sell 12v cables on their website, that are "compatible with all spypoint cameras" so I'm guessing 12v. Gell ice fishing battery. Got it. Thank you.

Art has a special prototype trail camera that looks like an Apple. The deer never suspect a thing.

Well the batteries didn't die as quickly as I'd thought. The % remaining actually went UP. And the camera was sending pictures every day like it was supposed to, until yesterday. Last night at 7PM it was programmed to take three photos and send them. I got two. It was supposed to send again this morning at 7AM. It didn't.
I hope it magically starts sending again. Otherwise, It'll be a week or two before I get up to see if it's still there or not.

Signal is getting weak? Cloud or storms block the signal?
