Well, the NuFilm P is supposed to be able to last through a few inches of rain over a 7-10 day period. With over 2" coming down in a hurry, I have no idea if there's any fungicide left on the fruit. I'm not going to re-spray, so only time will tell what the flyspeck/sooty blotch situation is this fall.

Just hit the trees with their 3rd shot of Captan/Imidan/Indar and sticker/spreader. I used the Nu-Film P this time as well as adding a cup of citric acid to the sprayer tank before filling with water. As I was spraying I was looking for flyspeck/sooty blotch. Granted, I was moving along and not looking super close, but right now I'm not seeing much evidence. Hitting the trees in August is largely because I want to see if I can drastically reduce flyspeck/sooty blotch. It seems that it usually doesn't show up until this month or early September. An August spraying also should prevent fall webworms and a possible second generation of codling moth. I'm glad to be done with fruit tree spraying for the year. Even after close to 2.5" of rain there is still evidence of insecticide/fungicide on the fruit that I sprayed 9 days ago. I'm sold on the NuFilm P

I picked a couple dozen Melbas today. Washed them up good and put them in the crisper. We'll see how long they last.
I put this on the spray thread because of how the fruit look. Zero insect damage. Zero flyspeck/sooty blotch. Time will tell on the later apples, but right now I'm thinking the 3 sprays I did will be a "good enough" program for my uses.

Kind of funny that next week sounds like it will offer the kind of temps needed to spray copper and oil, but I really doubt I'll be able to get the ATV around the orchards.
edit...I dug back on this thread and found that I wasn't able to spray copper/oil until May 3rd last year. I recall that now, waiting forever for a night with above freezing temps. Last spring was the coldest/wettest/longest spring that I've had here. Maybe there's hope for this spring yet.

I'll usually go ahead and spray if the forecast low temp is 38 or above. You just don't want the stuff to freeze on the tree for at least 24 hours, preferably 48.

The forecast looks like this could be a good week for that first dormant spraying. I might have to break out my sprayer and verify everything functions as it should.

Is there a cutoff time for the dormant oil and copper spraying in early spring? I haven’t sprayed yet and will likely spray next week, but I’m a little worried I waited too long. Any advice?
I suck at spraying stuff. I don’t really enjoy it so I tend to procrastinate.

You want to get dormant oil/copper on before first pink.
edit..some of the stuff I've read about pear blister mites is that you want to get your oil on as close to first white as possible.
It seems most years here I'm spraying trees when apples are at green tip and pears are close to bud burst.

I saw a lone bumble bee in the middle of my woods trail the other day. There’s nothing blooming there yet for him. Near home my wife had me stop at a local shop and there was a white flowering bush that was full bloom. Mason bees were working it hard. I had her ask what type of bush it was. They didn’t know. Lol. I’m going to go back and get photos. I think they’re be a great bush to plant for the early pollinators.

We've got a few inches of snow and temps in the mid 20s. No bugs today. There's nothing anywhere near blooming here, I imagine it'll be at least a couple weeks before the first dandelions pop.

I picked off the first wood ticks of the year yesterday. I must have missed the window of being in the woods without worry

That sucks Stu. Looks like we will be close to freezing on Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday this week.
