Think back to how far you've in just a couple years grasshopper. You're doing fine.
Sucks that things warmed up that quick for you. Hopefully you'll be able to dig them up. I've still got 15" of snow.

Looks great BV, I see your using larger rocks as mulch. What are your thoughts on using the larger rock?

Looks great BV, I see your using larger rocks as mulch. What are your thoughts on using the larger rock? That is limestone, they the cement company filled my entire truck for $5 and I limped home because it was so heavy. Thats pretty much why, its free lime when it rains (though minuscule) and its a ton of rock for cheap.

I mean walmart has bags of river rock for $6-7 that are 40 lbs, the local landscape place has small stones for $30 a scoop in a tea cup kabota. I thought, I wonder what the cement company does, I pulled in, walked in the office and said can I get a scoop of that crushed limestone out there. They said sure how much do you need, I said a pickup load. They looked at my truck, 2001 F150 super cab, ya know the real tiny bed one, he grinned, ahh how bout $5, sold!

I used to be able to get cheap crushed limestone near my old place, also from a concrete company. I also got cheap wash stone from them, when mixed with more expensive river rock from a landscape place it looked nice and I stretched the coverage quite a bit.

This tree is at my in laws, its a september dropper. Fruit is shaped much like Calville 'Da Hiver. It is somewhat yellow green in color. I will take pics of the fruit this year. Here is a pic the dormant homestead crab. Its slowly fading into history.

Those would be a good deer apple to get them hitting your deer orchard early. Then keep them going there thru December. That other tree can live many more years. I've got many like it that are going to be pruned this year to stimulate new growth. Apples have a will to live that is powerful. Your tree seems to be getting sunlight so it's healthier than a lot out there. Unless its diseased I'd bet it could live another 50 years. Try pruning and see what happens.

I have a few homestead, i will make a graft of the early dropper. I have so many varieties to work with i will have to say no at some point, right? Lol... I may want to get some pruning done on those trees. However the right side of that homestead is deader than a mackeral.
