Took my new pup (Scout) out for a dove hunt this morning. Fun times, shot 5 but missed a bunch. My neighbor/friend shot 15. Quite a few around....just enough for some bacon wrapped dove breasts!

Outstanding! Looks like you had a great morning (I love hunting with a dog). Took some kids out this morning for doves, fish, and food. Will take my boys (and a different group of kids) out again this evening.

You obviously have more doves around and/or a better shot!

The cork gun kid is a stud. He shot 70 of those birds this morning! He's especially good at finishing off cripples.

Breakfast is after the hunt; sausage gravy, biscuits, and scrambled eggs (all cooked over the fire). We kind of make an event out of hunting season... Fillet breast off the bone, shake in flour, fry (pull them out before they stop bleeding, once dove is done all the way through they become inedible). We also save all the hearts and gizzards for the fryer.

We had a disappointing hunt, but it was nice to kill a few with my SKB XL 20 gauge autoloader. Did shoot one collared dove, so that they was neat. Gonna try them again in the morning.

Dumb question.... How do u set up to dove hunt? Decoys? Spinners? Sit and pick your nose and hope? Here is my setup tonight; a couple of plastic decoys and a robo dove. I work at it more than most people I know who just go sit down in the weeds and ski bust em. I watch a field and pattern them, put the wind to my back, and camo really well. I treat it a lot like duck hunting. I don't like to miss so I try to make it as easy as possible.

My experience is that they tend to decoy better in the morning for whatever reason. The Mojo spinner is always with me, and will provide 2-3 easy shots per day. It makes it extra fun when they set their wings and work to where you want them.
I agree with good camo and getting hid, they WILL see you if you’re not hid or make any sudden movements.
I’m heading out at first light tomorrow and then to a relative’s place for the pm. Gonna be a good day!

Not a A lot of action, I missed my first five shots. Then I barely hit a couple, but did really smash the last two. Still a great day to be out there. We’ll see what the afternoon brings.
