Mn state slogan is “it’s brown it’s down”. It’s why I have not bought a mn license in 8 years. There are plenty of good hunting pockets in the state. Even outside of SE. There are plenty bad as well, just as there are in every state.

I'd say the hunting I have here right now is as good as it was on my tiny chunk of ground in Dane County, WI. It only took 7 years of hard work to get here ...but at least it happened.

A few years ago a spike or fork walked by my Dad then by me heading for my brother. Never seen him pass on a buck so I expected to hear a shot. Sure enough a short time latter I hear a shot. Get back to camp and found out he let it go too. It crossed onto the neighboring property were we thought no one was hunting. Guess we were wrong. My brother said that is the last time he passes one up. I will continue to use the SE rule of 4 points on one side. At least I've got a few on the camera this year that met that criteria.

I've got a few nice ones and one ancient 9 pointer. I truly believe that big boy never leaves the river bottom before dark and goes back in before dawn. With plenty of escape cover and a bit of smarts a Minnesota buck in the right area can grow to a nice size. One good thing about this year is that there's tons of younger bucks around. With so many small bucks roaming around the amish hopefully will fill there buck tag early and a few of the others will make it threw.

I’ve noticed high numbers of small bucks this year. I’ve got some good ones too. This may be the best year (prospects) in the past 5 years. Two big positives are the Nov 9 gun season, and there will probably be corn standing on Nov 9. Hope to be filled out by November 8!

Young bucks that walk during the day in MN are soon to be dead in most areas. If a buck has a penchant for being nocturnal either through his personality or learned behavior from mom he has a chance to get to maturity. The problem of course for the hunter is it's very hard to even see them let alone kill them. That's my theory anyway.

Batman said it a long time ago.
You need to have decent to high numbers of deer to get numbers of decent bucks. Not all bucks have the genetics like the one shown.
We are on the road to lower deer numbers per our DNR.
