So much for the pheasant opener, snow and high winds here in Western MN pretty much ended that!
I was excited to take out the new pup, but not today. Maybe later in the week. Anyone else going to venture out?

Anyone else going to venture out? Not this weekend, maybe next weekend depending on schedule. For those who venture out it's going to be a nasty day.

Nice work.
My dad and I went out, but we didn't fire a shot. One old rooster flushed wild and that was it. We did jump 3 bucks and 7 does on a property we deer hunt. One scrapper, one 2 year old and one good one.

Do I need a pheasant stamp to hunt land I own? Not if you live on it. Not if over 65!

Took the bitch out as part of the day. We flushed over a dozen birds in the first half hour. I think I shot the smallest cock in the field. Lots of young birds and it was tough to tell roosters from hens.

Start raising pheasants in your fences too. Then its all a free for all with no license need year round. You have to release a ton of birds to make the state preserve deal work, and we see and hear roosters almost every sit. Best guess is 4+ hens that raised clutches of 6 to 10 birds inside the 40 this year. If I focused more energy on fall cover (I did some this year) I think there would be 30 plus birds on the ground all fall (until we chase them out with the shotgun and dog). Best place is my 1/3 acre catch pen that has 7 foot foxtail growing in it. Half the visits you will flush 3 to 15 birds in there (little fuckers run way more than I realized). I watched 3 rooster fly into that 1/3 acre pen a couple days ago glassing deer from the dirt road. And its guilt free pheasant hunting. Deer never seem to leave.

I have the same issue, my birds run like hell. I think it's got to be learned behavior from being pressured from hawks, owls and eagles which I have a ton of. Do these birds use your feeders?

Only if they feeders are in heavier cover, which they seldom are. When I had one in heavy grasses the pheasant used it more.
