You also have to realize you can let all the 130" bucks go you want in some areas and 99% may never get to 150" anyways. So shoot and have fun....

I do believe that in many areas 125"-140" bucks are achievable with some regularity and a bunch of work.

I ain't no biologist, but I don't think many area genetics in MN are capable of getting to that point. Letting them grow or not. Just sayin.

I do know there are plenty of 150" and up bucks shot in Todd, Stearns, and Ottertail Counties. That's about all I pay attention to here. I don't think the issue is genetics around here. It's hunters shooting all the bucks before they're able to grow the inches.

I must be in the minority. From seeing what the locals bring in and what I get on cams I seriously believe there'd be a lot of 150-200" deer taken in central mn if left to grow past 2. There's some absolute brutes shot around me but most guys keep it quiet to keep poachers away.

Stus area was loaded with 150 plus deer back in the late 90's early 2000's. That was back when you could watch 25 deer parade past going to bedding in archery season.

So is it the DNR's brown its down pushing that is keeping more 150" deer getting to 150"? I have sold properties that have no chance in hell of ever seeing a 150" buck even if you didn't hunt it for 10 years.

I have sold properties that have no chance in hell of ever seeing a 150" buck even if you didn't hunt it for 10 years. I had 3 on the inlaws farm in the same season. I saw them all in the same field night before bow opener one year. Stuck the biggest one in the neck at about 6 yards opening night and lost it. I chased 150 plus deer there every year for a while until the slaughter began. Where the DNR can knock numbers back they are going to do it. On a sidenote the new deer gal claims she is receptive to creating micro trophy hunting areas across the state. See how long it takes before the Governors financial backers squash that idea.

I got a hunch lots of big deer die that are never seen by humans in the massive uncut tracts of the north woods. They've got to be out there, they just won't be anywhere people and the DNR can reach them. Lots of acres out there that just aren't accessible.

I can imagine how good this area would be with an actual deer "herd". There are still plenty of big bucks around, but they are in pockets. One young guy I know has family land west of L.P. Around 500 acres as I recall. Most is cattle pasture, but there's plenty of fence rows and pockets of cover. Every year he shows me pics of bucks well in excess of 150". Between he, his dad, and one close buddy they usually take at least one in the 160s. Another young guy has land north of me less than 5 miles as the crow flies. He and his dad take one in the 150s about every other year and have chances at more good bucks. They're on 180 acres I think. This area could be a friggin' gold mine of big bucks if hunters would just ease off the triggers.

Haha, I see Juneau Co is an island in a sea of red in WI. Yeah, you noticed that too...Juneau and Wood Co's. The whole place is all sand other than the river bottoms and that is still all sand once you go down a few feet, and it is either predominantly pine woods or swamp and the oaks are mostly black and northern pin, so the acorns are meh.
My guess is those were a lot of P & Y bucks as well, betting not to many were B & C.

Haha, I see Juneau Co is an island in a sea of red in WI. The last few years my folks owned their place I started to get pics of some P&Y caliber bucks. I blew my chance on the biggest buck I'd ever seen in Juneau County while hunting there in 2011. I don't miss that sand
