My hunt started on Saturday morning and I had a good buck (145 range)chase a doe fawn to within 100 yds of my stand. I nearly pulled the trigger but just not a clear enough shot. I moved to a ladder stand in the afternoon as the wind was from the south and kind of balmy. 49 degrees. Thought it might be slow, but hey it’s Iowa so you are still optimistic. At about 4:00 three bucks walked out together and fed in the picked corn. I grabbed my Binoculars and looked over and saw that one of the bucks was big! Thick, tall, wide ... ok he’s a shooter. I had to wait until moved a bit further and I ranged him at 118 yds...Took the shot (quartering away)he hopped up and looked like I hit him pretty well. I waited 2 hours just to be safe. My son and I tracked him for about 250-300 yds... and I said let’s back out. Good blood but I thought he’d be dead right in woods. Long story short, we waited until 9 the next day, three of us tracked him another 300 yds and there he was!! For awhile I was concerned we might lose him. Very sick/nervous🤮 feeling. Wow, I was excited, amazing low to a high!! Beers 🍻 after that! He ended up scoring 174 gross and that is my best buck ever!! So fun, love to hunt and I love that state (buck paradise)!!! Thanks again guys.

WOW! Absolutely awesome buck bwoods! Congrats!
I had not checked this thread until today, figuring it was just some trailcam photos of a buck still alive roaming your place.

Awesome buck and great story. Where was he hit? Do you think you bumped him?
It's crazy how far they can go sometimes, but that's great you found him. Did you know that buck was on your farm or was he a surprise?

Ben-he was surprise, but after I shot the buck ...we did pull a card and he was on there.
Quartering away— hit one lung, and blew out opposite front leg. No idea how he didn’t pile up in 100 yds. He fell a few times and could not jump a fence. When we saw that we felt better about finding him.
