Some may be able to be retrofitted or maybe even broadcast using the same Wi-Fi used for the transmitting to the remote controller. Main problem I see is there would have to be a ground station within range to pick up the signal or you couldn't fly. In major metropolitan areas there could be receivers but in the rural areas I want to fly they won't exist. The Wi-Fi on drones won't transmit more then a couple of miles. Manned aircraft aren't even required to have a system like this yet. Outside of controlled airspace manned aircraft don't even have to have a broadcast device. If the remote ID rule goes through as proposed I will make sure the DJI software I have can't access the Internet. DJI has a history of not letting its customers decide were to fly. They limit flight height and locations near no fly zones. I assume they will prevent a drone from flying if it doesn't met the remote ID rules.
