An $800 solar investment that saved $400 in utility bills/yr at an earnings multiple of 31 would create an instant increase in enterprise value of $12,400. Like printing money. #StabbinCabins I always seem to have a hard time following your investment analysis. If you save $400 per year indefinitely you have a perpetuity. To value a perpetuity you take your savings divided by a discount rate, often determined by the market. Let’s use 7%. So the value of the savings into the future is 5714.29. Subtract your initial investment of 800 and your NPV is 4914.29. This is how this should be analyzed. Also assuming that there will be no maintenance costs. I also heard that most solar units last about 10 years.

I just use my wife's logic, "Baby...it was ON SALE.....think of all the money I saved!" You need $800...you simply tell her it's normally $1,600! You SAVED $800 and it will still pay for itself in 2 years....

I used a P/E of 31 (same as microsoft right now). However, sunlight is far more assured than earnings growth from a 1.2 trillion dollar company. Let's raise it up to a P/E of 50. Gives us a present value of $20,000, and goes up 10% in value per year based on inflation estimates caused by green energy mandates. And that is how you turn $800 into $22,000 in one year.

Somebody please remind us in April NOT to let SD do anyone else's taxes!
I am NOT a financial wiz...but the only way I can turn $800 into $22,000 (real money) in a years time around here is by buying a large mount of some lithium batteries, some anhydrous and some sudafed...and avoid the fuzz!

Hmmm I would use the discounted cash flow model I presented. While in the end it doesn’t matter, it is the proper way to value such a decision.

We went to the design center today and selected tongue groove ceiling stained a dark grey with 15 can lights. After it gets done I am going to rip it all out and replace it with something different. Or maybe not!
