So why do we have a slug zone and a rifle zone? I always assumed it was a safety issue. Some dumass with a 300 win mag sitting out in the flat lands shooting at a deer running across a section with no trees, emptying the clip. How does the safety factor of whizzing rifle bullets compare to slugs? I realize a slug gun in the wrong hands, he will do the same thing. But is a rifle bullet going to explode on impact with the dirt moreso than a 12 gauge slug? What is going to richochet further on average?

I would rather the unethical hunters stick with spears or clubs instead of rifles- I'm just against anything that kills more deer and this certainly will do that. Odds of crippling a deer at 100 yards with a recurve are super low. They climb big time with any gun. Every yard you expand radius of opportunity increases odds of a shot exponentially. This isn’t a fair comparison because you wouldn’t shoot a recurve at 100 yards. Odds of injury shooting a deer with gun come down quite a bit 100 to zero yards but they would actually begin to increase first with a recurve then likely decrease again once under say 40 yards.

This isn’t a fair comparison because you wouldn’t shoot a recurve at 100 yards. You have never hunted with me. They have valleys named for the color of my fletch. I killed a swimming beaver at 106 yards with my recurve. From a moving boat. Killed an impala ram at 118 compound bare bow. Pass shot swans and killed doves with my stick bows. Worlds only bow shot flying woodcock. Don’t remember hunting with you.

That may very well be the case but it’s not the norm and it certainly doesn’t set the standard for what is considered normal odds of wounding an animal.

All I know is when I drive over by Art's I always wonder why the heck it's rifle over there and shotgun here. Over by him, it is flat, flat, flat. I'm in the hills. If one of our areas should be slug only for "safety reasons" it sure as heck isn't mine.

Sad day if this gets passed. Does this mean youth season too, I suppose. Great rifles over MEA. F...Dumb

I really don't think it's that big of a deal. Plenty of guys in the slug zones using "pistols" to shoot long distances already. I see plenty of idiots on forums talking about their Savage 220s being 200 yard guns. I used a rifle for probably 90% of my deer hunting in WI and never took a shot over 150 yards. Most shots were 25-50 yards.

quick google search says a smooth bore slug has a 75 yard range. 3.5 acres.
deer rifle 300 yards (conservative). 59 acres.
kiss my ass if more deer are not crippled.

I am not real familiar with current hunting methods in shot gun areas. I seem to think the rifleman will take one good shot while slug hunters just tend to keep shooting multiple times.
True or false?

True or false? Since I'm less than a mile south of the rifle zone, I can hear both rifle and shotgun shots. I tend to hear one or two rifle shots, and 3-5 shotgun shots...oftentimes followed by another 3-5 shotgun blasts from the next guy, and maybe another 3-5 after that...

Stats say 7 shots per kill in gun season. How many more deer enter a 60 acre zone vs a 4 acre zone. its bad juju for deer numbers.
