Most of my range shooting is typically sighting in a new scope or practicing for a hunt. If I am doing a western hunt I will shoot a couple hundred rounds of ammo getting comfortable shooting my rifle out at long distances (+300 yds).
I don't shoot my handguns allot mostly because of the cost. I have thought about buying a conversion KIT for my 40SW so I can shoot 22. You can buy a conversion for about $350 bucks which I think would be a worthwhile way to shoot your defense gun and economic to boot.
I mostly shoot my bow which I find very enjoyable and cheap. I also need the practice as us tall guys have some bad angles to deal with.

A few bullet points on this bill at the capital . It seemed to fall apart when some local officials in Rochester got wind of it. They thought it was crazy to have rifles in the Rochester area with all the development around that area. (See attached article ) … Olmsted County was then excluded from the change? Second and online poll showed 68% against . Third … a vote against this bill hurts the representatives grade by the NRA. So some representatives voted yes, even though they opposed the bill. Crazy that the NRA would do that, since this is not a bill against guns.

I agree… I think it will pass this year. I’m very opposed to the rifles statewide. But I’m getting older and I think capitulation of terrible seasons, laws, tags etc… will happen soon. I’m sure rifles and crossbows will be in the mix . To me it’s stupid, but so is the state politics.

"The older I get, the less pretty she needs to be." It's a fitting statement for many things.

Looks like this is up for debate again this year.
Just a matter of time...

Looks like this is up for debate again this year. Just a matter of time... You are probably right. I feel those that hunt shotgun zones should decide, not those of us in the rifle zone. I also hope regulation changes, if any, are simple. I hate excess rules with more lines of allowed here and not there.

Looks like this is up for debate again this year. Just a matter of time... I'd really like to use a rifle in SE MN, but that change certainly won't help the buck age structure.

Shotguns are the worst. They need to allow rifles in all of MN. I'm right on the line between rifle and shotgun and see way more deer wounded by shotgun hunters than any other weapon. I can't stand them.

I'll guess that a move to statewide rifle will result in a year or two of a bit higher kills in the old shotgun zones, but then it will level off at pretty much what we've been seeing.
Will a small percentage of older bucks get shot with rifles that wouldn't have with shotgun (or "pistol")? Probably. I don't think it will be hugely significant though.
I could actually envision fewer deer getting killed with rifles than with shotguns, due to the wounding noted by Wade above.

I can't stand them. Agree. Too many people using shotguns and slugs with no sights or decent barrel on 'em. Those guns are ill equipped for deer hunting.....and those "hunters" that use those guns are seldom knowledgeable on how those guns will "group'". Many of those guns wont "group" 3 shots inside a pie plate at 25 yards. It's mostly shoot and hope for many of those guys.

I feel the same way and remember guys talking about numerous Hail Mary shots with a shotgun at running deer. They would empty the gun. I have safety concerns with this, as those who do the same with a rifle. Most rifle kills by my family are one shot, but we don’t drive deer. Now, as a counter point to our view, are these multiple slug shots at running deer now a thing of the past and you and I are now dated in our views of what goes on?
