That's cool. I didn't realize spearing was that popular. It looks like a lot of fun. Do you make your own decoys? My father in law just retired and has been spearing a bunch of pike near lake city this winter. I assumed he just needed an excuse to get out of the house, but he has been sending me pics of dead pike, so he is actually killing some. He uses a decoy and also a live sucker minnow. He also had another pole out for crappies, so he catches a few of them too. I have no idea what the rules are, but it looks like a lot of fun. I have made some in the past and carry them in my decoy box. Now that you’re retired Art you should make them again. You do a great job on them.

it says 'Art, Duck and fish decoy show' right on the poster. At least I am mentioned before the ducks and fish!

Shiners impossible to find. Kid had to pay $8 a dozen for medium suckers in Monticello. This states a fuck show for the outdoors. I have a friend who is a bait dealer. Last winter and probably this winter, many sucker and minnow ponds will freeze out. State rules forbid importation of shiners from other states. Add impaired waters due to invasive species and it isn’t an easy business to be in.

It was nice to see all of the different age groups working together. Adults would trade unpainted decoys with kids if they wanted a different one. Kids were very courteous and busy.
I don’t mean to offend anyone, but I will bet you don’t see this in a 55 plus community. I just am not ready for that community... yet.

Pretty cool. It would be fun to make a few. I got into spearing last year and have been having a blast. Missed a big one a few weeks ago on Pelican. "Buck fever" got the best of me.

I had a small northern come in yesterday on one of the decoys I painted.
Making a decoy and getting a fish probably is like using a self bow.
Many years ago, I caught a 50 inch musky on a homemade buck tail. We dyed the hair from a wild Minnesota buck and tied some baits.
Decoy show coming up in April in Perham, Mn.

You decoy and spear whitefish? i I have speared tullibees. I missed one whitefish up on the lake where foggy used to have a cabin about twenty plus years ago. I would like to spear one. That fish came in very fast. I don’t know if that is typical or not.

That had a big stock tank there and most of the guys would let you take a decoy over to the tank and try it. I have a video, but can’t get it to post.
