I thought it was just me, but my wife and daughter both commented about the blooms on our crab apple tree in the back yard this year. They are a definite darker shade of pink than previous years, almost red. In previous years, they've been a light pink. This year, almost a crimson red.
Is this a mass delusion on our part or can this happen? This is the second year we've actually sprayed for scab after a couple really bad years where I thought the thing was going to die. That's all I can think of that's different. We haven't done any different fertilizer for the sod.

Maybe it’s just really healthy for the first time since I’ve owned the place? There seems to be a lot more than previous years too. It's thick.

I don’t have any idea. Tiny little fruit that hangs all Winter. I go out there when the snow is hard and shake it off for the rabbits.
It sure looks good this year. I keep going out there and just looking and inhaling.

Everything’s pretty around here right now though.

Just so I'm clear here. Nobody's seen the blossoms change color from one year to the next on a crabapple tree. Correct?

Looks like your tree has chosen to identify as something else.

I haven’t seen apple blossoms change color from year to year but, their fruit can change color , taste, and size based on sunlight and water so maybe blossoms can change color too. Maples leaves change in color from year to year.

The colors in most flowers are at their best when they first open and then they tend to fade.
Could you not have caught it in early bloom in other years?

Everything’s pretty around here right now though. How deep is the pond? Any fish? It’s by my house in Burnsville. Half deep, half very shallow. Lots of fish. I used to slay them in a float tube out there. But no Chan I’d eat anything out of there. And I’ve soured on catch and release. People can do whatever they want. But catching them and putting them back just doesn’t sit right with me anymore for some reason. I’ll be a vegan next for Christ’s sake.

Maybe we are just paying more attention because we are home so much right now and not running around in a rush 24x7. A positive of the current situation?
