I tried a couple of the inline mole traps last yr. At first I was afraid I had a gofer and feared loosing trees. After trying unsuccessfully last fall to catch anythin I found a dead mole over the winter in my driveway. No new tunnels this spring. Might have gotten lucky. If I have more show up I'll look seriously at the Hawk trap.

You've got moles. That trap should work or they make traps with spikes that stab into the ground when the mole trips the pressure plate.
I bought two of those pressure plate ones and they didn't work for shit. I got one last year with one. First two attempts the soil was too hard and the trap lifted out of the ground when it tripped. Next attempt I pushed the spikes into the ground with it in the unset position so there was holes for the spikes to go into. I then set the trap and also used two tent stakes and rope to tie it down. I got him that time.

Art where did you buy your trap? It is quite pricey online. Common Art .....speak up. Did you get the probe and "hole enlarger" or do you just use other stuff for that? I think I need to try one of these. Edit: Also, what it the yellow rope for? do you anchor the trap?.....or use that rope to drag 'em out? (grin)

The rope is to drag them out and then Batman hangs them to dry for that dried meat stuff he eats. I paid about $53 ay Gilman Coop creamery. Checked it last night. 4/4.

I bought one of the Gopher Hawk Traps on Amazon yesterday. Will be here soon. I do see that they offer the "trap only" version where you dont get the probe and hole enlargement device. Saves about $15. or so. That would be the way to go if you want a second trap. Also, when buying several traps the price goes down.
I got a good steel probe I use to find the tunnels and sometimes my wife will run the poison insertion tool as I find the tunnels with a probe. We often inject about 20 or 30 doses of poison grains to the tunnels. That system seems to work pretty good for us.....and we do "okay" at controlling the pocket gophers. Tho you can never be certain you got 'em. I hope this works better. Time will tell.

I bought my Gopher Hawk from Walmart online, got free shipping. Cost was $26 I think. I use the same piece of re-rod to probe and open the hole for the trap that I use for probing for poison placement.

I have been shopping locally more often than using Amazon or rather than going to the big metro center of Little Falls. I needed some green beans to finish up the garden this morning. The local hardware had them in an envelope for$.49. 7:40 AM and the owner is sweeping the floor and getting ready to mop.
My neighbor needed a fishing rod and went to the same hardware store where the owner is an avid fisherman. He also needed line and the owner said he would take the rod home and put line on it like he had his poles set up.
These are the guys we need to support.

I'm willing to pay more locally, but I'm not willing to pay 2x more.
I wanted to buy pelletized gypsum from the hardware store in L.P. Their website said they had it, drove there to pick it up and they didn't. I'll be driving to Menard's next week.
The last time I looked, the Menard's in Alex had Gopher Hawks on clearance for around $25

At $25, I would buy an extra one. i understand what you say about double the price.

I dont find allot of time to shop.......and when something like the gopher hawk appeals to me.....I try to "get 'er done" before I forget about it. I would rather buy some of these things locally.....and do what I can that way. But some of these items are hard to find when you want them. I can always find it at a reasonable price on Amazon. It's become somewhat of a "bad habit" to buy on-line (I realize this) but I'm all about getting the job done and on to the next item. Sadly (?)....I oftentimes think I have learned to live at too fast of a pace. Edit: Now where did I put those damn roses I like to sniff every now and again?

I tend to buy a lot of stuff from Amazon as well. I was a bit surprised at their price on the Gopher Hawk when I was looking for one. Nobody locally had them in stock, so I had to order online from somewhere. Walmart had the best price. Whenever I can, I try to buy stuff from Fleet Supply in L.P. I have no problem paying a bit more there to save me from driving to Alex.
