Well I avoided all warranties today on the toaster oven. well not that it had any because it was a used one that I bought. I got my temperature controller hooked up and I can now run a PID loop to hold temperature. The only thing I don't like about this controller is it displays in centigrade and not Fahrenheit so I need to do the conversion which is no big dealing. Did a test run up to 400 and held it there within 10°. I'm going to insulate the toaster oven a little bit better just to be more economical. After all I am using the grid. This is for a tempering oven? Why not just use the wall oven? He screwed up and told the wife "what he was going to do" before doing it. She changed his mind. Looks like a nice little easy-bake for ya. Always good to have an extra tool in the shop. You looking to get around 63?

Knife making got side tracked. I had a piece of laminate countertop from a sink cutout that I saved. Brought it up from the basement and was going to use it in the garage. The wife saw it and decided it would make a nice portable kitchen island. Since we have limited counter space and it will match the counter it was a good idea on her part but became mine to build. I picked up some materials and have it about halfway done. While waiting for the glue to dry I was able to get some time on the knife project. Toaster oven calibrated with the temp controller and I insulated it to be a little more efficient. Also have the fire brick forge built. Scales cut and ready to put on once heat treated and tempered.

Yesterday I heat treated and tempered the blade. Today before I put the handle on I want to do some testing. I'll check to make sure the heat treat and tempering did what they are supposed to. Then I'll put an edge and see if it holds up. I figured I did good since this is all new to me.

Nice work Mike......and a great explanation on the important terms in knife making. Well done. I bought a few finished blades off Amazon.....then made a handle out of antler scraps. I have one that needs to be epoxied in.....but just dont seem to get it done. I think knife making could be a rewarding hobby for a guy of your skills. The hard part after making knives is marketing tho.....as it is with most of this stuff.

He's no Ron Popeil, but great work nonetheless.

It's done. The edge could use a little fine tuning but it will cut.

Very nice! Good job (and I like the "it will cut" reference).

What does anyone think it's worth. If you're still on facebook, check out 7Forge Steel Savants page www.facebook.com/groups/113966590516454/It's a private group, but I think they'll let anybody in (they let me in). They are knife making group and sell homemade knives. May give you an idea of how much your creations are worth.

Nice work Mike. Looks like a great no-nonsense knife. I have seen some nice knife sheaths on Amazon for just a few dollars. Seems they have all sizes available. How many hours work do you have in that project? Engrave "Deer Habitat Forum" on the blade.....and I am a potential customer.

It's done. The edge could use a little fine tuning but it will cut. That'll get you a free car in any major metropolitan area, no problem!
