Since I got my tractor I was looking at planters that I could use with my tractor. With the ATV I had to do multiple passes to plant. Looking for a planter that would eliminate so many passes, I came across this, Woods FPS60. Sort of pricey if bought new, but from what I have been reading and seeing my 33 hp tractor would handle the 60 inch version. This would mean spread fertilizer and then plant. Here is a video of it. What do you guys think.

I'm no expert but I don't know if there would be enough weight to be used as a no till planter. Otherwise it looks slick.

Technically....this is a no-till drill. I have not heard the best reports from folks that have these. they try to do multiple things in one pass......and under ideal conditions I suppose that is real. But all too often you dont have ideal conditions.....and may have some issues with a tiller / seeder / packer unit.
The concept is great. Not sure on the unit living up to expectations in many conditions. Also....these are pretty speedy.. Maybe a good cultipacker and a disk and seeder would be of more value? It is for me.
Edit: If you bought a good new cultipacker, a quality seed broadcaster (like a Herd) , and a decent tandem disk you may spend up to $3000 and have ALLOT of versatility in what you do. I would bet that unit shown will be 3x the money. Not sure I could pull that trigger.

To plant brassicas it means spreading fertilizer , discing or tilling, cultipack, spread seed by hand, don't think The Herd can spread brassica seed accurately and then cultipack again. Trying to reduce the amount of passes, thought that with tractor there would be something that would speed things up.

You can pull a much heavier disk with your tractor that will get the job done faster than the atv.
the no till drill might allow you to skip a pastor two but it will be expensive.

You've got tractor and tiller. A good planter like Brad just got will do beans and corn. A 3pt spreader will handle seeding and fertilizer needs. Packing doesn't take that long so you could continue this as you were or buy a larger one for behind tractor. All the above would be cheaper that the all in one unit. Unless you've got money to burn and willing to take a chance on something that may or may work, it's your call. To me a little extra seat time on the tractor is what it's all about. Your retired so time shouldn't be an issue.

Tom, I would not want an all in one unit for several reasons. The first is cost. You can buy implements separate for cheaper especially if you go used which is very easy to do. Second, if something breaks you can't just replace that one implement. You are stuck with everything being together. I would not want to be so limited in terms of upgrading one piece of equipment and such.

I understand what you guys are saying, but I am trying to get away from doing this on 3 to 4 acres every year.

I understand what you guys are saying, but I am trying to get away from doing this on 3 to 4 acres every year. I despise doing that on any amount of acres during the summer. Pretty sure I even complained about walking a fist full of clover over to the hoog.

I upgraded some equipment (atv sprayer, spreader, drag) so I could increase the size of my plots. I still seeded the small seeds with the bag seeder. It's more work walking on bigger plots (did about an acre total vs 1/4 in past) so I can see why you'd want to eliminate that on 3 to 4 acres, especially when it's 90 degrees. Not sure how spreading the small seeds would go with the spreader I got. Works good for fertilizer/lime/large seeds.

Any one know if you can plant clover and brassicas with a old John Deere planter like what is pictures above?
