The mix I planted this year had Seven Top Forage Turnip, Winfred Forage Brassica, Rangi Forage Brassica, and Daikon Radish. It grew great. Produced a bunch of leafy matter and a few bulbs. I didn't noticed the bulbs until just a few weeks ago while gun hunting. They were digging at them and they were eaten to the dirt. We grew T-Raptor in the garden test plot along with DER and PTT. They demolished them after only a few weeks of growth. Didn't even wait for a frost. Any cereal grains or legumes in that mix, or all brassicas? No, this was just the Prime Time Brassica mix from Deer Creek Seed. I threw in some AWP's and clover when I planted. I saw some clover but only noticed 1 pea plant. Not sure if they ate it as fast as it came up or if it just didn't come up. It was a no till plot so not sure how the AWP's do in that situation. I'll be tilling my cereal grain mix next year. Should be pretty good I'd imagine given how this year's no till turned out eventually.

I planted the pasja forage turnips this year for the first time. Deer hammered them as well. Th y seemed to be growing well. Ahead of the purple tops and tgen the deer decided they liked them. They were gone first before the radishes.

I was getting ready to ask where you got your mix but you had already answered. Thanks. I might try your brassica mix this spring with sunflowers, millet, vetch, beans, chicory, and a sudangrass/milo. I wonder if I could follow that planting with a fall mix of winter peas, wheat, rye, clovers/chicory, and that brassica mix again?

You've got a much longer growing season than we do. I don't do any summer feeding plots, leave that to the big ag. Only year round stuff we do is clover. If you planted the mix w/ cereals and what not I'd probably make it a bigger plot than the recommended size on the bag. I think it says its good for 0.4-0.7 acres. I'd plant an acre with everything you were mentioning about throwing in with it. I'd think the brassica mix at 1/2 an acre would smother just about everything else.

I would adjust my seeding rate to accommodate the other stuff added in. Need to research what brassicas can add to my soil in a summer forage setting. Grazing should keep the plot in check unless there is something the deer just don't like, then it might take over and smother some. Wouldn't matter much if that happened though, deer will find what they need and that mix should make for a good cover crop to plant into for fall. Just thinking out loud.

nhmountains - My beet plots are usually very good for finding sheds. Hope it continues.
dpx2 - Three+ acres this year, my usual. A little thin this year, tractor broke down and a little to much seed got left on top of ground. (broadcast them in the lightly disk or till in then culti-pack)
Also did 2 acres of corn and about 9 acres of soybeans. Thanks goodness all seed was free. lol

Free seed. Best seed!!! How big did the beets get? Yep free, rr sugarbeet, rr corn, and rr soybean. Most were 4-5 inches in diameter a little smaller than normal, with tractor breakdown didn't get fertilizer on like I normally do.
Think I buy some turnip and radish seed for next year, I've planted before but not the best luck with because of overseeding (broadcasting). Suggestions!!

Last pic up was Jan 4th 2021
Just got this pic from cell cam, tonight, deer still hitting the plot. I was up on it a week ago and thought the plot was cleaned out, not the first time I was wrong.

Only three, one nice matched set, pics said most were still holding. Going up later this week, checking again.
