These hybrids have been surprisingly drought tolerant. I’d expected a total loss on this years planting, but so far some are surviving. Tomorrow it’s supposed to rain, with cooler temps ahead? Sure hope so…. . I hope it rains, also. I went through 250 gallons of water this morning, between the garden and apple trees.

If the forecast is remotely accurate, it may break the drought here. The 2.25" we got a week ago is bringing the lawns and clover plots back from dormancy. If we got that much or more again in the coming 7-10 days it would be a different situation entirely.

Yep, we hadn't either until a week ago. Just a few miles in any direction and things are different, they didn't get anywhere near what fell here. I talked to a guy north of us about 2 miles, he got over 3" that same night.

Stu—my brother in law lives just east of Thunder Lodge, I don’t think he got much rain, maybe 1/4 inch. Terrible dry there.

Lots of brown tips on the corn from L.P. south. A farmer I know is west of the Lodge maybe 3 miles, he got a few tenths the night we got 2"

I’m hearing the Sauk Centre area is one of the worst areas in MN.

Getting a drink today. I suppose the Bur Oak trait helps with a dry stretch.

I am kind of excited to get 25 of these in the ground as part of a CRP tree planting in Iowa. .79 acres. Also some plum, crabapple, & Red Oak. We will tube or cage everything we can. It should be real nice addition to a tucked away field.

Might add crabapple too … I'd think crabs would grow really quickly down there.

I told my neighbor I was planting trees this spring. He said “well don’t plant any cedar”. We laughed. But I think I’ll honor that. Just one row of Black Hills Spruce. I’ll probably add another row of crapapple.

I just checked a few of my Swamp Bur Oaks + a few Swamp White Oaks on my 40 in Pope County. Just one dead one… nice survival so far .
Apple trees look good… but found (0)sheds !🤨
