I had an Opossum meander in front of me this morning and I was torn on if this was a welcome sight or not. As far as having them in the woods, a family unit can take out 10-12k wood ticks a month so I’m all for that. I know they can destroy a pheasant or grouse nest if they come across it but I don’t know if that is on their primary diet.
What say the habitat council?

How many ticks would the nests they raided eat? I trapped 9 this year. Got one last week.

I’ve never wasted an arrow on one. Trapped and killed one during nesting season this year.
It would be gross but I’d like to kill one and cut its stomach open and see if it is full of ticks.

I trap a lot of nest raiders every year and turn them into Apple tree fertilizer. Skunks and coons are most common, but a few opossums are mixed in as well.
I wouldn't waste an arrow on them though.

I only use my 1 arrow from an old batch of arrows with an already used broadhead. Its in my quiver for coons, cats, possum... whatever feral critter comes by. Used many times.....

I give everything a pass while bowhunting. Too paranoid about screwing up a chance at a buck.
If I get one in a trap it's toast.
See one running around I'm likely to paint it green or osha orange and turn it loose in town.

Ticks need to be eaten before they become adults and reproduce. That means eating birds and all the rodents. But who could provide such a service?
