I am happy to have tagged a nice buck and also shot a doe for the freezer. Have to admit I am not very anxious to get in the stand in MN this year. Maybe late season for a doe if the weather is not too cold. With your Iowa farm I would bet Minnesota does not look so inviting. Average buck quality is so much better on your Iowa place. Any Pheasants on your Iowa Farm? You are right , hard to get motivated for here. But I enjoy just being out in MN and I like the land management part of it, food plots, etc... I am optimistic that next year will have a few survivors in MN, especially in Parkers Prairie. The neighbors next to me in Parkers do not muzzy hunt much. We just checked cams and a couple nice ones survived.
**A scattering of pheasants in my area in Iowa, my neighbor has a few in the CRP. Some quail.

I filled my buck tag and won’t be muzzle hunting this year. I could go out with the bow and try to fill a doe tag, but not real anxious to do that. How about the rest of you? I have enjoyed 4-5 days of habitat work and am also looking forward to Thanksgiving. My thoughts have shifted away from hunting and to habitat work and ice fishing. Most habitat work will end with an increasing snow pack. I am always glad when it's over. Not that I want to see cabin season come to a close, but I get worn out entertaining. I'm a loner when it comes to time in the woods. I enjoy company when they come, but I also don't hate my time alone. I haven't taken a nap at the cabin since April. That seems like a fail to me. I'd still like to put up some venison this year, but I'm also staring at perhaps the best post-season habitat weather I've seen in years. No snow, I've got the time, I've got the equipment. I could get 2-3 years worth of post season work done in 1 if I get after it. If you are tired of entertaining, why don't you just tell everybody to fuck off and go up on your own?

I like having Steve and my brother and his kid up. I am considering keeping October to myself though. It'd be a lot easier not having to put two people on deer while minding the wind.

I’ve got until December 6 to hunt. I will finish up today and hunt this weekend. Then a day or 2 next week. Then I start the habitat work the following week. I’ll put in at least 2 vacation days on it releasing oaks.

Shit, our endless season is only half over. I am taking my daughter to camp this weekend. We will hunt Friday and Saturday morning then close up for the year. Snow is coming. If we don't get one this weekend we have an invite to a place with lots of deer to get her a chance. I never want to see the season end because that means months of snow. We have until almost end of December to hunt somewhere with some weapon.

Yea pretty glad its over. The covid BS pretty much killed it for us. We dont have a place to stay up north in the cold/winter months other than my parents, and thats not happening probably for a very long time. My son might hunt at home with bow, but I am done. Our target buck at home was taken and we havent gotten a close to mature buck on cam since opening of gun season.

In the se mn cwd zone we likely have gun seasons through the end of the year. Last year they announced them after the muzzleloader season was over.
I've spent a few nights on much thorn around the house, but I'd really like to work on the back side where it can help the most. But I'm not interested in bumping deer to the guys that set up feet off my property line. So I'll wait until January and hope a few bucks survive.

I enjoy deer hunting and like spending the time with my kids. What I don't like is all the "how old is he?" or "what will he score?" crap that goes with it. It pisses me off that people are concerned about a number....and that's it. Many times based on nothing more than a cam pic and they never even tag the deer. Worry about the age and score once you have your hands on him! I also hate the so called "hunters" that you see them carrying out "bait" the night before opening day.....that is illegal here in IN.
I too look forward to habitat season starting, but I won't be doing that until our firearm seasons are over (end of december).

One thing I will say, on this forum I have never seen a person chastize someone for the size of the deer they killed. I just happen to prefer taking a more mature deer. I dont deer hunt for the meat. If I get meat, I will use it. If I dont get meat, I will go buy me another half an angus.

Nobody on here criticizes another for what they shoot, and should never do that . There’s definitely different approaches to hunting, challenge, quality time with friends and family, food/venison ...time in the woods. Personally I like all the above.

Any deer harvested is a good time for whoever shot it. I don't care if it was a stick bow, compound, crossbow, rifle, or whatever. Also don't care about a deer's age. A couple of days ago I had a shot at a deer that I swear fell asleep as he walked through the forest, like an old man in the recliner after Thanksgiving dinner. Ancient old grey ass scared up warrior... I didn't have the heart to shoot at him. I always felt that telling another man how the right way to hunt is like telling another man how to make love to his wife... as long as he likes it nobody else should give a damn.
