Collards the new latest thing now? Never had anyone ask for them but I see they are on the seed list now for less then $2 a pound. What is so special about them? They're not supposed to bolt until they go vernal. Brassicas all year. I guess I was meaning which guru is pushing them? Seems like that is what happens

Forage collards first showed up a few years ago as I recall. Cover croppers were the first to use them I believe. I think Green Cover Seed was about the only U.S. source for at least a year or two. Now they're everywhere

Ordered my Collards today.....and I also received my free Soil Health Resource Guide from Green Cover Seeds. Looks like a good book. I got 5 copies and plan to give a few to some guys I know that do some plotting. Did a little noodling around the internet.....and I see that Woods has a pretty good looking small sized seed drill on the market. Looks like a good unit for minimum till.....like me? I just cannot justify the price for the few acres I got. (about 6k IIRC. Thats allot of golf balls. )

My frost seeded collards update...nothing has broken ground yet. Not sure if there cooked or haven't germinated yet. I will keep watching

Nothing has popped here, but there's still frost a just a few inches down in many areas.

I walked around and looked for collards on the houseplot awhile ago. Nada. Plenty of pocket gopher activity though

High ground no sign of collards. Low grounds showing some promise

Pretty sure the strychnine grain has done a few in too. I'll get them cleaned out of the houseplot too.

Checked my north clover plots today. Those plots have everything from dry sand to muck with some standing water. Zero forage collard germination. I didn't think it would work to frostseed them into existing clover plots, but was hopeful. Doesn't look like a viable option at this point.

Results from both of my frost seeded collard plots are in....drum roll....complete bust. 5 lbs with very little germination. Worth a try but not worth repeating here at TT

^^^yep, I'll try them again in a June/July planting but frostseeding them is a waste of time and seed.
