Didn't know where to put them, so I'll put 'em here. ROD pics. This is taller than I am. I have a lot of the stuff at all heights/ages. Great winter deer chow, once you have enough there's plenty of them that escape being browsed and will start to propagate all on their own.

Did you plant those or are they natural? That's some good looking food and cover for both deer and small game.
I've planted a bunch over the years, but the browsing early left a lot of them stunted. I need to throw some cages around them or at least drag a few branches around them to make it a little more difficult for them to get browsed to ground level annually. I'm good at planting stuff like that, but not so good with the follow up browse protection.

Those I planted near the house for "prettiness" . Other than that, I haven't planted any ROD here.

I have an old meadow type field that is now full of ROD. Great shrub, and nice wildlife habitat.

I’ve got 100 plants coming from Cold Stream Farm in the spring. They’re 1-2’. Could I cut them and push the cuttings in the ground to root?

In the low areas, near creeks, ponds. Great survival. I have plenty of natural ones as well. My wife and her friends make Christmas Porch pots with spruce limbs and dogwood...sorry not many pics.
Gonna take a few next time I am out there.

Lol, my wife is the one who spotted sone ROD beside the road a couple weeks ago and had me cut some for her to make porch arrangements as well. So I told her I’d order some for our property so she could get her own cuttings in the future.

Nearly the only ROD I find is inside of my apple cages. Birds must sit on the cages and pass seeds.

Last winter I walked some wide power lines a couple miles my camp and saw my first known patch of ROD. There were several deer bedded in the power line. Now I know why they wintered there. .

Great winter deer chow, once you have enough there's plenty of them that escape being browsed and will start to propagate all on their own. I hope you're right. I just don't see mature ROD in any big quantities anywhere other than right along drainage ditch banks along the road, and those are often there because they are reached out over the water. There is ROD everywhere though, it just doesn't get past knee high. I'm holding out hope if I keep the canopy at bay long enough and open enough acres that it'll get there.

As I said, most of the ROD I find is inside of the fruit tree cages.

I checked out my ROD patch today, it has really taken off the last couple of years. I hinged all the trees in a wet area and they along with elderberry took off. I also confirmed 8 white swamp still alive and thriving. They were planted 7 years ago and range 6-14’. They officially have my zone 3b stamp of approval.
