Do any of you guys replace the straps on your stands? I yanked 6 stands this afternoon and 2 of them have those stupid pull type straps I would like to replace. Also, two of the stands I pulled from my grandmas earlier in the fall had grown in and I had to use a hatchet to cut them out. Is there a brand or type that you guys have purchased from Ace/Menards/Walmart that seems to work well? I´m thinking the ratchet type are the type to look for.

We use ladder stands exclusively. Will never sit in a hang on ever again. Strap weakens on a ladder stand u aint dropping 15 ft.

Only problem is I quit bringing them in every year and now have a few I’ll never get out. Seat is shrinking. Probably killing the tree now. Need to go around and loosen these. Have way too many stands.

We try to take the straps off every year and reset everything so the trees dont take ownership... I am at 15 i think?? Lost 2 last year to trees that blew down stands attached.

I purchase multi packs of ratchet straps from Tractor Supply. They usually have them on sale at Christmas time but, I think the 4 packs of 10’ straps are around $20 now. They sometimes have camo straps but, other times I get Celtic green.

I aim for a 2-3 year life on them. Buy them based on poundage supported, and I make sure to get UV resistant. I've had some where the threads just pull apart after a year. Loosen them all at the end of each season. Enough to keep them up there, enough to let the tree grow.

I loosen straps every year when done using the stand. Inspect and tighten before use. Buy 500 lb safe working load and 1500 lb break strength straps when on sale and replace every 3 years.

There would be a product idea for someone. Devise a stainless steel cable with means to tighten it. Years back I built hang-on stands and used a small chain and binder to attach them.

How reliable are Gripples? Perhaps with a clamp they would work? Not sure how much tension you can apply with that product. No experience here.

So I use the ratchet straps as well. I HATE the little buckle straps. I use the 1" wide ones. They range from 6,8 and 10 or 12 feet long. I use them for hang on stands, climbing ladders and even my ladder stands. I try to get at least 1,000 pound rated ones. I also tend to use them in pairs...if one is good...two is better. I bring my stands in every year and I tend to replace the straps about every 2 or 3 years. Or at least retire them from "tree stand duty". I have 5 gallon buckets full of them.
Little storage tip for them. Get a drill a little bigger diameter than the hooks on the straps. Then put a ring of holes along the top of a 5 gallon bucket. You then run the hooks from the straps and let the straps and buckles hang in the bucket. I alter strap/buckle/strap/buckle to balance the weight. This will hold 2 dozen or more ratchet strap sets or more and you have a handle to carry the whole thing as well. You can also put the lid on the bucket as well if you feel so inclined.
