Rescue Crab should be harvested soon. Seeds are slightly to nearly all brown. I seem to prefer these early apples (like Norland) before they are completely ripe. I hope we can salvage enough for apple sauce. I like the taste.

I don't remember which thread(s) we've discussed the Courthouse Crab on, so I'll put it here.
I went past the mother tree today. It's loaded again, as it has been every year for as long as I've paid attention. I'd say at least 7 or 8 years.
I do wonder if the trees in that spot get irrigated and/or fertilized somehow, and it is in a bit of a protected setting. That said, it sure seems awfully close to a foolproof producer. I need to snag a couple more scions in March. I don't think any of my previous grafts took.

I'm sure you've mentioned it before, but how long does the fruit typically hold on that tree?

Granted, the wind doesn't blow like crazy where the tree is, and there's no critters to raid the fruit. I assume it is also growing on it's own roots, so when it's grafted the characteristics of the fruit may change a bit. It seems to me that my grafted Pillsbury crab fruit are smaller than those the mother tree produced. They also don't seem to hang as long. That may change as the trees age however.

Most of the Jonsib Crab is now ripe. It has had a slow drop this fall. I wouldn’t call it a crab and wouldn’t call it ornamental. It is a decent baking apple.

I didn't snap a pic, but I noticed that many NW Greenings were still hanging today when I went past on the mower.

They're not the worst apple for fresh eating, also not the best. Mine look like they'd be pretty mushy if you tried to take a bite now though.

Wild crab along the edge of my south field is still holding fruit. Not a lot of deer sign by it.
