Are you buying a bigger unit?
There are allot of good brands on the market these days, they don’t give them away though.

What region of the state is your cabin located? Itasca county. Fishhouse is in Rogers though How is that area for lake properties? My wife and I will be moving out of the Minneapolis area in the next few years and would like a lake home but are concerned about taxes and cost. In the next couple years we will be traveling to different communities looking at what they have to offer and then make a decision on a place. We like the up north feel but want golf, restaurants etc. without as many people as say a Brainerd. I have not put any time into looking so I don't have allot of intel but I like these areas, Alexandria (lake Miltona particularly), Walker (Leech), but both those lakes are expensive so we may want a lake in the same region but less expensive. We also like Ottertail county and will look in that area.

We're too far north (30 miles north of Grand Rapids) to have exactly what you're looking for (Golf, restaurants, etc) but an area where I would have you explore is Lake Pokegama in Grand Rapids. Don't know exactly the costs associated with the lake but I spend a weekend on the lake each year. A lot of homeowners vs cabins, never feels "busy" or over crowded. Close to Grand Rapids, golf courses and restaurants. Beautiful clear lake with a definite up north feel. Have a good buddy living on the lake now and always enjoy my time there. Miltona and the Alex area would definitely be too busy for me!

Too many nosey neighbors on the lakes( maybe on golf courses?) I much prefer farmers for neighbors. I grew up on a resort and then lived on the lake through high school. I visited my parents on the lake. Dad had no neighbors on one side of him and it was still too crowded for me. To live on a lake, I would want 200 acres of hunting land on it and no neighbors for 1/4 mile. It needs to be a walleye lake. I am fifty years late and many dollars short.

What I would like to find is a very large lot with a tear-down old cabin and some land in the back for a Pole Barn. We are not to interested in buying an old cabin to fix up.

I drive around Alexandria when I go to Parkers Prairie. That being said, some dang nice lakes in the Alexandria area including Miltona.
Ottertail County has some nice lakes!
